Hi All, I need to pick your brains as im worrying about what is wrong with my TT 225. I drove to work ok then on the way back on the M6 it over heated i checked my water and that was ok i managed to drive it slow to the A45 and pulled over again for a hour if i stayed at about 40mph it kept the temp level but if i go over it starts to rise. Can anyone help im going to be ring the stealers tomoz as they fitted my new engine just before xmas.

Thanks in advance for any help

Had the same problem overhere a while ago, exact same symptoms.
As soon as you drive a bit faster temp rises quickly.
Waterpump had to be replaced /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Agree with TT manic
Causes of overheating

Sticking Thermost
Fans not coming on when coming to temperature(sensor fault)
Water pump

I would go with the Water pump as if you are driving slower and this helps, this points to it

Cheers

I had the same problem on my A6 1.8T. If you drive gently the car doesn't over heat but if you drive hard the temp goes into the red. I thought it was the thermostat at first but it turns out it was the waterpump. The impeller ( the bit that pumps the water) is made of plastic and mines had cracked. It couldn't pump the water with enough pressure to keep the engine cool at high rev's. It cost 600 Euros to find and fix but thankfully I got it done under warranty.

On my TT I had the same problem replaced the thermostat and water pump but it still would get hot when driving hard then I found out the larger of the 2 fans was not coming on all the time replaced and have not had that problem anymore

Hopefully this will help?

Unfortunately I've had all these in the last couple of months. The dash prob that has been on watchdog (for me at least..) was only really effecting the petrol gauge. When the tank was empty the gauge still read 3/4 full. Audi replaced this for free - which took them 3 attempts (a whole new dash each time - they kept giving me it back with a hugely increased amount of mileage to when I took it in). At one point nearly 80,000 more miles then only 10,000 on the next and eventually 2,000 but on receiving it back I'd notice the temp issue you seem to have. I consulted a local audi approved specialist (as i'd lost all faith in the dealer at this point) who suggested these issues, water pump, fans or a combination of both.

Dealer said that as it was their fault (??) but due to the incovienence they'd take in apart for free but then I'd have to pay for the rebuild labour plus parts. I was mega angrey already but what can you do, over heating can be a major problem. Anyway on first attempt they though it was the water pump which is near the cambelt (so costly to get at) although I checked my service book and it had been replaced at the same time as my cambelt change only a year ago. A call to my Audi specialist reveals a warrently with any audi approved part (regardless of who fitted it - and the dealership should fit a replacement for free) so I knew if it was that then it'd be done free - parts & labour.

Anyway they were wrong in their (good will guesture diagnostic - we'll take it apart at no cost, bull) which seemed to leave them completely baffled? Why they didn't check the fans before all this I dont know.

But anyway, it was one of the fan sensors that had gone.

When I asked for a receipt of work, so i could prove the work had been done if I ever needed to sell the car, not to forget the warrenty on the parts etc. The response was, because audi-uk covers the dash replacement/s and the fan issue was a guesture then not receipt could be given??

Still having it out with them now.. Good luck
