stage 1 remap or tdi plugin this is the question

my a3 140 tdi needs a more power and better fuel range but not sure which to go for as i no that every car is different, its done 72000 miles all sounds good and no rumbles,

would always choose a remap over a plugin tdi box , the remap is a re-written program for the ecu ,but the tuning boxes are just fooling the cars sensors .

Remap is far superior.

Plugins increase power and torque on the standard map which on most cars has a nasty torque spike which stresses the clutch.

A plugin will only make it worse leading to possible clutch slip.

Not all remaps are the same either, a flatter smooth torque map is always the best map.

They achieve the same goal tbh & with the ever changing manufactures ecu locks, tuning boxes are becoming the better choice for newer cars, thus it shows no ecu changes that a dealer can see & thus warranty is intact, can be fitted & removed with ease when needed.

However, warranty wise, the future maybe that audi adds or is already monitoring the cars boost, bhp etc numbers & can then see if its been modified externally.

If you want more of a custom power setup then a remap directly on ecu is the best option & also for older cars that warranty isn't really an issue.

AFAIK tuning boxes work by fooling the ECU. ie. if you push the accelerator pedal 25%, the tuning box will tel the ecu that you actually pushed it 50%.
The car seems to react better but there is no actual power increase.

by the sounds of it, stage 1 is better and worth the extra money so remap it is

thanks

Not got a TDI myself, but from noseying at past threads and discussions on here, I've never heard of anybody who has got a tuning box. A good remap is the way to go but just make sure it's set up to how you want it as you're the one that's going to be driving it.

the trouble is i live in north devon and new to audi (which i love) so dont no any good tuners, i dont mind driving as long as its not 2 far as there is so much talk about amd near london but that is a bit to far as it takes 5hrs to get there so if any body knows, please post me as i need more power lol:sob:

i have got an EGR blanking plate waiting to be fitted when the rain stops and also clean EGR and inlet manifold so stop raining please

thanks for all your help

Hi madmanrsvr,

We are a specialist tuning company and offer both re-maps and tuning systems. With both options, we have genuinely seen great results for the Audi A3 140 TDI PD with improvements in both power and torque whilst improving fuel efficiency. However, it is worthwhile paying attention to your engine code since this narrows the options available to you when considering a digital tuning box vs a custom re-map. Please feel free to give our technical team a call on 01245 924 400 and provide us with your engine code. Alternatively, our website provides full details on the re-maps and tuning systems available Diesel Tuning | Diesel Engine Tuning | TDI Tuning.

It’s totally personal choice as to which option you choose but we would be happy to talk through your specific requirements and all the options to custom fit a solution for you and provide an un-biased view.

Regards,

Steve

Hi....new to the site but saw this post . I have literally just come through the door after having my 90000 mile 2004 b6 tdi 130 re mapped by AMD at Thurrock essex. It now produces 181 bhp and 291lb ft..interestingly as standard the dyno showed it was producing 149 bhp.......it drives cracking . This was a custom map and a previous car (renault), had a box....no contest but £100 difference. Even for piece of mind surely the custom is the way to go?
