Does anyone have a good recomendation of what to use to connect my iphone up to the symphony cd player audi a4 b6 2004 model, i hear that if you use a aftermarket headunit you will lose your dis?

You won't totally lose the DIS, just the bit at the top that shows what station/track is playing. Everything else remains functional.
Just grab a dension unit or xcarlink through cd port, dension will possibly give you top dis track info, but xcarlink wont.
