Hey guys and gals,

Getting a knock especially when starting to reverse from stop but now becoming noticeable when pulling off forward and can sometimes just hear it when changing gear into second. Had rear left (where knock is coming from) spring changed but still there. I drive a quattro so hoping it's not something to do with the 4wd transmission or linkage.

Any ideas?

Cheers

put a trolley jack under your rear diff and jack it up slightly.
you will see how much play there is in the rear mount and the front mount.

think it will be more to do with the rear mount (upright plate that hangs off the rear subframe and the back of the diff bolts to.) it tries to twist and move around under load.
cheap fix with some tigerseal or sikaflex.

three allen head bolts and two (19mm?) through bolts into the frame.

do a search on here, I replaced my front one (still rear diff) but you can do the same with that and just fill the cavity with hard silicon.
Just filled the rear diff hanger and got it back on the road just recently.
difference is night and day. no shunt or clunking anymore
