Evening all,

I've got a 1999 A4 1.8 T sport that has a little niggle with the alarm/central locking. When i lock the car it locks as normal and the leds on the front doors set themselves as normal but the indicators don't flash when the alarm sets. The indicators work when disarming the alarm. I've tested the alarm and it works when opening the doors. I know that the car doesn't lock if one of the doors open so i know this isn't the problem

I know this sounds like picky but just want to make sure that this is not the start of a more serious problem. Has anyone else got/had this problem.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Check your car on the vag-com... it might be an option that you choose.

Low610,

As far as I can remember, the door led's do not come on until all the doors/boot are shut when the alarm is armed.

The fact that yours is flashing the indicators only when the alarm is disarmed could be down to a setting within the Central Locking/Alarm control unit. I believe that RastsS4 is correct in what he has advised.

Hope this helps!

Jim.

Thanks for the update guys.

I don't mean to sound dumb but what is vag-com.? I've looked on the website but cannot find what i'm looking for. Are you suggesting that i get the diagnostics software with the cabling.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Hi low610.

Welcome to the site. Have you ensured that your doors and boot are all closed?

BTW, have you got any pets that you keep in the car?

Sounds like you alarm is not arming properly, i know that the LEDs flash at different speeds when the car alarm is arming i think? Fast when you first lock it up then they slow down after a few sec or so.

VAG-COM is a diagnostic software for VW and Audi. You could either buy it or take your car to a specialist that will fix this problem for you

Mawhitey,

As far as I can remember, the interior light and alarm is controlled by the same switch contact.

The rear door switch is located in the body and the front switch is located within the door lock catch.

The interior light is controled by the Central locking/alarm conrtol citcuit which is part of the central locking pump.

If low610 has his alarm led's flashing, then the door contacts are working, the alarm will not arm and flash the led's if there is a door open.

I know you can make several changes to the way the alarm operates via the diag port, so perhaps someone has done this?

Jim.
