From the symptoms you described I would definitely look for corroded Haldex earth strap and corroded Haldex connectors. I had same fault code, I replaced my earth strap with a new cable and repaired the connector and hey presto.

Audi A3 fwd SMF is OK. Audi A3 quattro SMF will chatter if too light. I was thinking of going down the lightened SMF route but after a little research found its not advisable on the quattro and most people go back to DMF. Good example of what flywheel chatter sounds like.

The way I looked at it was why am I going to fanny around with unknown setups or cheap chinese coilovers, when majority of people in the 8L crowd have already tried and tested it and say this is a good setup, saved me loads of time and effort plus works really well.
