Getting droning sound - wheel bearings?

Cars just developed a speed related droning sound, seems to be from the front and worse when turning left at speed. No difference when braking. Does this sound like a wheel bearing issue (had one go on previous B6 at around the same 130k mileage). If so is this a DIY job or is it a real pig...

Insurance premium has doubled in 12 months

No changes, max no claims bonus, 47 years old and the cheapest I can find a renewal quote on a 54 plate A4 TDi 130 is double what I paid last year. I hope all you time wasting, money grabbing, "someone dented my bumper and now I've got whiplash" personal injury scroungers are happy with...

    Ebay have gone mental

To make life simpler ebay have changed their fees on buy it now sales. Instead of a tiered charging system it is now a flat 10% across the board. Before - if you sold something for £300 on buy it now they used to charge £8.17 + 1.5% of the final price = £12.67 From July 21st same transaction...

Fitting rear seat backs - slight problem

My new car is a lovely black B6 TDi 130 sport, the only issue is the cloth interior. Picked up a superb black leather/alcantara interior with door cards on ebay from an 08 saloon, which is now installed, all apart from the rear seat backs. The new rear seats are the folding ones while mine are...

Anyone know where I can get OEM dash trim other than dealer?

Got my leather/alcantara interior installed today but the alu dash trim that came with it has major dents and scratches on the main piece across the dash (it is also from a quattro, so need a plain one). VAGPARTS are no more so is it just rape time from the stealer?

    Will a B7 or Cabrio interior fit a B6?

Looking for a black leather or half leather interior for a B6 and there seems to be a lot of B7 and convertible interiors on ebay but nothing for B6. Anyone know if they are the same or what would be involved in making either fit?

    2.8Q stalling again

Had this problem before and turned out to be the water pump seizing causing stalling at junctions and traffic lights. Can't be this again as it was only 50k miles ago. Car idle is very low around 400-500 revs and surges up and down. When you dip the clutch the revs dip right down once and this...

Why is there no prompt anymore for sent items folder full?

Really basic guys, I've just wasted a lot of time writing replies to PM's that haven't been sent because my sent items folder was full. No prompt, no warning, just allows me to keep sending messages to nowhere. Is this now a setting I have to select? surely the default should be "on" not off.

    Is it definately the clutch?

The clutch on my 2.8Q is starting to slip when powering on. If I drive steadily then all is fine. It's even OK on hill starts and 1st and second gear, but when I floor in 3rd, 4th or 5th then it slips. It's really annoying as it was supposed to have been changed 40k miles ago when the gearbox...

Wiring in a proper accessory feed (ignition on) for aftermarket HU install

2000+ Audi's don't have an ignition on feed to the HU. They use the CANBUS to tell the HU when the ignition is on, and when the keys are pulled out. You need to either pair the permanent live with the ignition on feed to the new HU and turn it on/off manually, or create an ignition on feed for...

My poor 2.8Q is definately falling apart

Was on the A3M this morning on the way to work and try to change down from 5th to 4th to overtake and get horrible graunching from the gearbox and then can't select any gear. Cruise over to the side of the road and the gearbox is really stiff and the only selectable gear is reverse, which works...

    2.8Q rear diff oil

I've noticed a quite a build up of oil on my rear diff, it's not badly leaking, no drips onto the drive or anything, but I'm conscious that it must need a top up. Anyone know how this is done and what fluid to use?

Anyone else had ABS controller fault on their B5?

Looking at this article it looks like my ABS problem is a common failure on B5's. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec116.shtml Mine has displayed exactly the symptons described slowly getting worse until now when the ABS light is on all the time. The irony is that it looks like the failure is...

Is it normal for a VCDS scan to take this long?

Trying to finally sort out the ABS warning on my dash, more because it blanks out the DIS than any worry over it's functionality. I'm doing a scan at the moment and it is taking forever. Seems to be scanning all 256 addresses (00-FF) 4 times at 5 seconds a time so will take 85 minutes by my...

Finally fitted my Meyle control arm kit

Been putting it off for months, but the clonking and groaning from the cheapshit ebay kit I fitted 18months ago was getting on my nerves (and it would fail the impending MOT). Ordered the kit from Allgermanparts last week and fitted it today (well one side this morning, drivers side this...

How do I know if my CAT's have disintegrated on my 2.8Q

Came off the motorway tonight and the exhaust was making a terrible racket. The exhaust is only 3 years old, Milltek, and the garage said the CAT's were rattling badly but still OK at the last MOT and the noise seems to be coming from the front of the car as far as I can tell. When I got home I...

    What flavour is my 2.8Q

So I'm having this issue with the ABS warning light and 3 long beeps permanently coming up on my 97 B5 2.8Q. Trying to scan it with VAGCOm which used to work fine, now forced to upgrade to VCDS and it's now saying my car is not OBDII compatible. I'm using the same cable I used before, which is a...

    Oil in plugs - wierd

Normally I've just done oil changes on my 2.8Q and let VAG specialist do major services, but times are tough so thought it was about time I changed the plugs on the old girl as she has been a bit neglected recently. It turned out to be a slightly worrying experience as 5 out of the 6 plugs all...
