And yet having owned two RS3’s (one Prefl, one DAZA) in the last 7 years and being part of 4 or 5 enthusiast (and active) groups on face ache I’ve never heard of any complaints in the UK groups of cars going bang from rocker bearings.
Throwing rods out of the block due to tuners running...
Yes you’re right, it’s the (2021 on) Panamera, (earlier) Panamera S, and Cayenne S that use the same base engine as the RS4.
All those are arguably likely to be daily drivers, so thanks for your input :D
I can report similar experiences with Audi dealers in the South. My local one had my old RS3 8V in for a water pump replacement under warranty.
When I got the car back the engine bay was filthy, spilt coolant and marks everywhere.
A friend who’s a senior tech with Mercedes said to me he’d have...
Apparently the same bearing design with part numbers matching the prefl B9 are fitted to DAZA RS3's.
They tend to bend rods more than crapping lifters when they go though!
As for porkas - Taycan's are fairly likely to be daily-ed I'd have thought....I guess time will tell. Either way I can't...
Yes and no; I still think it has to be taken with a pinch of salt - part numbers are often revised, this isn't necessarily an indicator that the engine is about to catastrophically fail, and with the 4's tending to do far higher miles than 3's more quickly (let's face it many people buy them as...
I’m aware what he’s claiming, and I’m also aware that the part would probably have to go through some pretty extreme heat cycles to fail in that way - bad or over aggressive tune for example, or perhaps his own garage’s test drive (joking of course);)
The same bearings are fitted to the RS3...
Thread resurrection but I’m very likely to jump into one of these from my 3 soon and can’t help agreeing 100% with your comments here.
A tuned RS3 is (comparatively) cheap to run, faster than most things you’ll meet on a public road including Teslas(!), it’s reliable and unbelievably economical...
Personally I’m taking all these videos from VAGTech with a significant pinch of salt.
I’m reading them in the same vain as Evolve’s YouTube content about rod bearings on E9x M3’s.
Yes it happens to some cars. Is every car a ticking time bomb like they make out? Well based on some of the vids...
Thread resurrection but I’d also endorse the shim idea. I also wouldn’t touch red stuff with a barge pole if you need to stop hard more than once; yellow aren’t much better, but blues are actually really good pads for the price and offer good cold bite as well as resistance to fade.
Having had a...
Well the discs have arrived today and I've got a set of blue stuff NDX pads as I've used these before and got on well with them on my Impreza when it was running quite a bit more power than the Audi. Just waiting on the longer caliper bolts as these were out of stock so Martin is sending them...
Brilliant reply just what I was after thank you. Also been speaking to other members privately and the reylands seem well regarded.
Have ordered the 380 kit and looking forward to receiving it soon.
Have decided to go a different route and bought some EBC blue stuff pads as they also come with the wear indicator sensors.
Will let you know how I get on...
So I'm about to bite the bullet and buy Reyland's 380mm discs, but before I do I wanted to ask whether these require removal of the backplates / stone guards.
If so I may just go for the 370mm version, so thought I'd ask - hopefully someone can help me out.
Cheers in advance
Just started getting squeal on mine; had it a few months now (the car not squeak!).
It’s a late 2015 8V. Not planning on putting cheap pads (I.e red stuff) on - had yellow stuff on a previous car and wasn’t impressed - but I don’t want this behaviour either as I daily the car and the noise is...
