Morning everyone hope everyone had a great Xmas
Problem front left wheel-one of the wheel bolts not tightening up I'm properly screwed lol
My question is what size tap do I buy and go I then get say a 18mm bolt instead of a 17mm oem.
Thanks in advance ☺

I personally wouldn't advise drilling and tapping a wheel bolt fitting, buy a replacement hub and stay safe :icon thumright:
As you have four bolts that are tightening up correctly it'll be fine to use but get a replacement hub ASAP. For info the wheel bolt torque is 120Nm for an A3 8V so don't over tighten and torque them correctly with no grease on the bolt threads.

I cannot see your idea working. I think the wheel bolts are M14, so you would have to go up to an M16. If you could get an M16 wheel bolt would it fit in the counterbored recess in the wheel and you would have to drill a larger hole in the wheel. Not really a good idea.
As regards grease, I thought a light smear of copper slip on the thread was correct, but it should not be on the underside of the bolt head.

Applying any lubricant of any sort increases Torque value by about 20% so results in over torquing

As a short term get out of jail fix, wrap a bit of PTFE tape around the bolt thread. But to echo above, get a new hub ASAP.

My apologies, you are 100% correct George. I think I'm having a post X-Mas moment. Keep grease off the threads but by all means a dab on the meeting faces of alloy wheel and hub are a good idea.

Hi and thank you all for your input

Thank you so much for the people who replied much appreciated so thanks again.
After reading your comments I've definitely chosen to replace the hub indeed.
I watched a yt video of a mk7 golf tapping in a new coil so thought I'd give that a go._ right OK will cancel the tap and die order from the bay.
Will fo down to the dealers tomorrow see if I can get one ordered tomorrow.
Thanks for the torque spec too real gem that.
Happy Xmas and Happy New year folks
