Hi Guys,

Im thinking about adding a DAB kit to my MMI, it interfaces directly into the MMI like fistune kit

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114091759575

It comes supplied with a DAB windscreen aerial but I was wondering if I can use the aerial thats already fitted to the car, as I believe the Avant already has the factory aerial in the rear side windows?

Would I need any special parts for it to connect to the factory aerial?

I've done a few searches but the info seems patchy, cheers

Those antennas are rubbish, you would be best to fit the audi kit if your car setup allows, including antennas if not fitted already.

I have factory DAB but I also have a dashcam with a rear camera which interferes with it. So I listen to FM instead, and I am unaware of if and how my radio-listening experience is reduced. To me DAB is just a toy that I can't use/is not worth using.

So my question is do you really want DAB enough to go to the effort?

There are few stations I like to listen to that are only in DAB, so would like the option

@Boundy , I thought you'd done similar to me and retro-fitted a Carplay/Android Auto system. If so, why not use your phone to stream your digital stations? That's what I do with Planet Rock in particular, and it's way better than my OEM DAB.

I have been doing that but I've noticed in a few places that my internet connection drops out so it takes the station with it, was hoping for a simple, integrated solution

I’d be inclined to leave it as it is. Unless you can get a mega solid DAB signal (and as Nigel has already pointed out, you won’t with the supplied antenna) You’ll probably get more dropouts than with streaming.

That was the point of the question in the first post,

How do I use the factory fitted aerial in the rear quarter window and what parts do I need to make it work

Gotcha: sorry I can’t help with the technical questions.

Cheers for that, from what I can work out, the comes fitted with an fm booster, I would need to to add a DAB booster, so the car would have 2 units, not a single replacement.

Pre facelift and facelift use different antenna systems. The parts pictured are for pre facelift.

In the facelift avant, the DAB amplifier is on the right hand D pillar. The antenna is in the glass but you may have to solder the wires onto the terminator pads on the glass.
