Afternoon chaps.
I'm looking for a little bit of help again, and yes it's alloy wheels , my favourite subject matter..lol.
With all the recent DTM activity on this forum I've realised how much I miss the ronals that were oem fitment on my old bus , and of course on DTM's.

I would love another set but in 19" 8.5j format but audi never offered that option.
I've been snooping the interwebby again today and found some Veeman alloys , whilst not identical they are a very similar mutlispoke design which I like.

They are offered in numerous fitments which is fine for me to choose my personal fit, but, colour is bugging me again.
Graphite or silver, I love both but just cant visualise graphite on a black avant bus compared to silver.
This is probably a big ask but if anyone is a dab hand with photoshop can they com up with a visual for me .
both options are below.
I'd be really greatfull if it was doable.

cheers
rob

They look rather nice. I contemplated some AEZ steam at one point as they were 15 spoke like the Ronals. Can't help with the photoshop request I'm afraid.

I know it's down to personal preference, but I really don't see the appeal of multi-spokes Rob.
Back in the day I had an 80 quattro with 16 spoke Ronals on, and they were a ****** to keep clean, even at 14".
It's why I like the 5 spoke S lines so much.
Now if I could get a set of 13" 4 spoke Revolutions on...........

I've tried so many alloys on my old bus, all are nice But I just like the mutlispoke ones to be honest , has to be 18" min really but 19" are really nice with 35 profile tyres.

must be an old man thing..lol

Haha, I would guess we're about the same age.
It's just all that extra cleaning, I'd prefer to spend my time driving it rather than scrubbing it.

You can't beat a good bit of scrubbing.:haha: , and I like my alloys clean weather its an easy or hard job.:icon thumright:

Has to be silver for me Rob on that particular wheel the graphite just looks like it used to be the silver wheel but has been sat outside unloved for 5 years.

Thanks or the reply Ricky.
I was thinking the very same whilst having a rather tasty chicken and mushroom pie with roasty's etc.
I love the darker colours but they always tend to look dirty even when they are clean, and even worse on black cars.
I needed 4 new tyres asap now and with very few tyre centres open I decided to order a set of the silver Veemans with Goodyear eagle F1's already fitted, so I get some more shinny's bits and new tyres at the same time.

Right need to sort out this FMIC.

happy days.

It was only last night I was looking at some tasty 19" ispiri's in silver almost bought them, i have to be careful going on shopping sites late at night I end up spending money I shouldn't lol but I have got a thing for a nice classy set of silver wheels at the minute...also been looking at the v10 s6's but that's for another time lol

I know what ya mean Rob, iv even been looking the DTM,s look so good on the B7. I lost out to a set of 20s a coupl months back. For your car shadow chrome would be good. Out of those two then silver it would be, looking forward to once again seeing your old bus with some new boots on.

So today the alloys arrived and look nice, Et35 option but as expected don't clear the caliper's , seem to have been here way too many times before, what a surprise.
In realterms clearance is just about doable with an 8mm spacer but that makes offset ET27 on the front which looks a bit too much to be honest.
I did a loose fit with 5mm and it wont clear , 8mm does .
Now i'm not sure weather to carry on with them or change for something else.
Darn it.:sadlike:

So 18z’s don't work with a 35 offset front wheel?

It's not that straight forward Ricky.

The problem is due to the several factors.
Firstly all aftermarket alloys differ is style and pattern and many styles don't work on b7 with big calipers, they just wont clear them or if they do they stick out like a tonka toy, whereas oem alloys maybe a better option .
getting the right alloys that sits the way you want and still clear the caliper can be a challenge.
It's a combination of offset , rim width , and style of alloy .
A lot of alloys will fit fine with big Brembo's but a lot more wont and it comes down to personal choice of alloy.
I was looking for a silver rim , multispoke style which are not the easiest to get clearance with.

18'z work with offsets of a wide range but its rim specific if you get clearance.
my current oem 8.5j are et43 and clear the 18z's fine but I still have a 6mm spacer on the front , my previous inovits on et35 only had 2mm gap and the ones before that about 1.5 mm , so you see it varies a lot.

I'm not giving up just yet though, I have a plan that may just get me enough clearance for the fronts to fit and still be at et35 ish, rears are not an issue.

Ok then, a new day but still having issues with these veemann's .
They just wont clear the 18z's without excessive poke , I've tried the caliper offset trick aswell to loose 4mm inboard but still no go.
Plans A, B and C have failed so i'm sending them back for something else on Monday, I really like them but just too much hassle to get them on even for me.

Plan D , going to try these, still 19" 8.5j et35 but they have a more curved core design which should hopefully solve the problem that seems to occur with thicker/straight spoke alloys.

Also found a few pics of the same alloys on a black B7 avant, look quite nice on an avant bus.

Anyway, worth a go and see what happens.

The only thing i'm not keen on is the centre cap , so if they fit I may have to do something on that front.

Just out of curiosity Rob, where do you buy your alloy wheels from?
Had terrible experience years ago buying from an online site who wouldn’t allow me to return them despite them being the wrong size etc

no specific outlet to be honest.
If they are not marked and go back in the same condition they arrived I've not had any probs to date, most of them are very understanding these days but I expect a few retailers can be difficult though.

Rob have a look at the ispiri ffr6 when i buy a silver set these would definitely be high up on the list to beat they do them in a few colours but there silver finish is second to none!

Actually ill attach an image for you :icon thumright:

Ispiri have a thing for making other brands in the same price range look really cheap there finish is unbelievable for what they retail at.

Just had a light bulb moment, just off outside to try plan "E" , I doubt it will be any different buy hey, worth a go.:icon thumright:

And another day on and I've managed to overcome the issues with "plan E".
Rears go on a treat without any spacing with ET35 .
Fronts will now clear the big Brembo's after some very carefull adjustments to claw back 4mm which is JUST enough, no scraping etc but if I can find another 2mm that will be spot on and I wont need spacers and it keep me at ET35 allround.
All in a good day today then, I don't need to return the veemans which is good because I really like them.:yahoo:

Rather than fit them fully now i'm going to hold back till later in the week as it's a good opportunity to repaint the Brembo's as they are in need of a tidy up asap.

Anyway , a few pics as we all like pics, well I do.

Time to light the BBQ up now for some well earned munchies.:icon thumright:

Have a good one chaps.

So what was plan E then @I'm Just Rob. ??
I am intrigued and guessing what you done!
My guessing is you shimmed the calipers to sit inboard somewhat to create more clearance?
Or was it something to do with spigot rings to bring the wheel further out?

It was a very technical solution :icon thumright:, i'll finish my steak and let you know.

Spacers on the front are a non starter as it just pushes the rims out too far, narrower tyres are out as I don't want any more stretch than what I have now .
So I was pondering on shimming the calipers a bit , not ideal and I did'nt think it was doable but for a mm or 2 it can be very handy.

Decided to get under the wheel arch and see what the caliper position was , got my Vernier gauge on them and it turns out they are already just under 3mm outboard from the disc, to look at it didn't look it but the gauge doesn't lie.
So by returning them back to a true central position then going 1mm inboard I've gained 4mm, which is just enough, 2mm more would be ideal but I feel confident it's fine now.

Only downside is that I need 4 new caliper mounting bolts as the current ones are border line long enough, well they have allways been only just long enough to be honest, but that's an easy fix.
Happy days now, just need to give the calipers a paint refurb in yellow. :icon thumright:

Nice work Rob! for future reference, in the absence of photoshop skills... TSW Wheels have an alloy config tool that shows you the car in a selection of colours. If you choose B7 S4 its close enough to our Avants to be accurate (unless of course you actually own an S4). https://www.tsw.com

Plan "e" has not been a complete success, works fine on offside front but nearside is still problematic with the Veemanns.
Spoke with the wheel company on Monday and they are really helpful and had no issues organising another rim even with the current problems.
They ordered another single rim on Tuesday, it arrived today which is very good service and they respond to emails and tel calls.:icon thumright:

Just need to do a fitting session this evening when I get back from customers on site this afternoon.

Having spent an hour or so on the bus with a replacement alloy i'm even further away from where I started now.

I've had issues all along the way with getting alloys I really like to clear the 18z's but it has never been this problematic.

The latest alloy is ET40 which is not the offset i wanted but using my 5mm spacers it would still be at ET35 which is where i wish to be now, will it clear , noway, it needs 8mm min probably 10mm to be super safe.

So i just don't know to be honest, i had no issues with the inovits but can I overcome this current install problem, it is looking less likely by the day .

Rob, if you like that style of wheel then I can recommend BBS CH-R

I'm liking the Fondmetal 9rr's , only 1 snag, they don't do silver..why not.

Rob you've had more wheels than Elda Marcos had shoes :laughing::laughing::laughing:
Ps... This answers my previous question :grinning::grinning:

I had a think about this, should have done it sooner but have been working. Created a GIMP (yes thats the name of the software) working file to change alloys on a B7 that looks kind of like mine (Black Avant). Its got the calipers in and new alloys can be inserted to see roughly what they'd look like. Anyone wants to play around with the file it can be downloaded from here: https://ln2.sync.com/dl/55d6d5cd0/8hejf8tm-98vwmn8t-dw75f2ch-fzk5f697 (You'll need this software: https://www.gimp.org/)

Happy to change pictures around for people; just need side view of your car (see below) and a flat image of the alloys, as I'm not good enough to change the perspective on angled images.
