CETE Valve control issues - anyone else?

Thanks for explaining, that makes sense if the valves only fully open at higher revs. I’m definitely considering one! I read somewhere that to reset it if required you have to hold the start/stop button, my car doesn’t have the smart key so would this be an issue do you think?

Its the traction control button as Riko said, press twice to close or twice to open

To disable the controller it is the Auto Stop/Start Button (the awful thing that makes your car stall at traffic lights) for 5 seconds - not the push to start button. You will be fine.

Update on my controller a couple of weeks on: Working flawlessly :)

Ah that explains it, I knew I’d seen something about start/stop. Makes sense now cheers

I fitted my Cete valve controller to my 19 RS3 saturday & wow, what a pleasant surprise, the sound of the car comes alive right from start up, i am so pleased with it, mind you for £330 i should be :rockwoot:

What goes with the price of these? Some folks have said they're £400+ and some are getting them for a little over £300. Is this just exchange rate fluctuations?

For just the valve controller kit its 399 euros +VAT + 15 euros postage, I bought mine last week & my total in pounds sterling came to £329 & received it the next day, not sure how they worked it out but its a lovely bit of kit, transforms the car.

Think mine was £320 after converting from Euro’s.

I’ve just ordered one and it’s come out at £381 so obviously not that great at the moment!!

just looked at the checkout and my currency conversion was showing £383!!!!
Same as mine just about, I’ve just ordered one. I wonder if they’ve recently put the price up as it shouldn’t vary that much

£320 to £381 is almost 20% difference. I can't believe the GBP/EUR exchange rate has shifted that much recently. Are ze Germans adding their VAT on to one and not t'other because that's around 20%?

I heard the new one may have a Bluetooth app control so hence the higher price maybe?

If you can get the non BT one I would as it’s easily controlled by the car buttons and save a few quid!

There’s no mention of Bluetooth on the web page but maybe it just hasn’t been updated. Hopefully I’ll receive mine sometime next week so I’ll report back

Standard one sent to Australia is 392 Euro. £340 or AUD$667. Hmm.....I find it abhorrent that I pay extra for a sports exhaust and need to pay another $700-odd to hear the ****** thing. Why don't Merc and BMW have to put a OPF in their cars???? Are we the mugs paying for those a$$holes$ at VAG for dieselgate???

Crikey someone got up on the wrong side of the bed today :whistle2:

OPF is being rolled out on all brands so no getting away from it (in Europe anyway):readit:

You do have a point in relation to specifying a sports exhaust and then getting a sound like its coming through a garden hose.....no doubt that's why it's part of a pack.....

Don’t, ever remember it remembering the last state of the “start/stop”, button.

It’s the auto start/stop where it cuts the engine when stationary, if you disable this by clicking the button then the controller will keep it turned off permanently.

Thanks. I always, disable it before driving off. Always need to, as the unit doesn’t/hasn’t, ever remembered.

Strange, sounds like it’s not working correctly then, this is one of the features I like about the controller so you don’t have to turn off every time.

Yeah, it is a bit weird. I’ll drop them an email.

So received mine today and installed this evening, no Bluetooth feature for smart phones as far as I can tell but there was no instructions or documentation with it so who knows!
Like an absolute muppet I assumed it was installed on the side with the bonnet release as per the CETE video on YouTube, so much swearing ensued after I removed the bonnet release and panels to discover that it was in fact the wrong side! :triumph:
Anyway all installed now and working so I’m looking forward to driving it in the morning to hear the difference. :icon thumright:

Hi Russ,

Its such a shame you didn't ask on here 1st, i did & its on this thread too, took me 20 mins to fit , i was unsure from the german video purely because of the bonnet release handle is on the left on a left hand drive car.... anyway, that aside, i'm sure like me you will love it, i do :rockwoot:

I know, I’m not sure how I missed it as I’ve read through all the threads CETE controller related (obviously not very well!).
Not to worry it only cost me around 10 minutes as the panels and bonnet handle came off easily.
Driven it for 15 minutes to work this morning and it sounds great, you really notice it in the lower rev range which is what I was after... it was really nice to just start the car and drive without having to change the drive select and turn off the auto stop/start!

Been about a week now, and everything is now working perfectly since replacing the controller (which arrived in a few days from CETE). No more quirks or strange issues to report, so the controller was definitely defective. Hopefully that's me sorted now. I didn't have anything like what you described with the boost gauge mate. I'm not sure how the controller could effect that, but mine did some strange things with my MMI, so it's possible I suppose.

Thats exactly what was happening to me mate. 100% exactly. If it happens again turn the car off and lock it for about 40 seconds. Restart the car and it'll likely come back as normal. Quick re-starts after shut down seem to either cause, or sustain the error when it has gone wonky. Seems to me the controller may not be initialising when the start button is pressed for some odd reason. It was totally intermittent as well, and unable to replicate it, but it happened on 4 separate occasions over the course of 2-3 weeks. I'd say if it happens again you should ask for a replacement from CETE. Given the identical nature of our errors I think this should be establish that is is a possible fault with some of the devices.
I’ve had an issue with mine over the last two days which is a bit disappointing... yesterday when I drove back from work I noticed the auto start/stop button had reset to on and the exhaust flaps were closed, when I cycled the drive select the flaps remained closed in all modes, even dynamic. When I got home I unplugged the box and reconnected it and all was fine again. Today it did completely the opposite, the flaps were stuck open in all modes, again I noticed as auto start/stop had reset, again I disconnecting and reconnect the box and all is now good again. On both occasions I tried holding the auto start/stop button for 5 seconds to reset but with no success. Guess I’ll have to email CETE as you did

Sounds like the exact same issue I had. Sorry to hear it :(

Hopefully CETE get back too you quicker than they did me. They made me pay return shipping, but as mine was several months old I didn't complain. You only just got yours, so be sure to get shipping covered as that's only fair.

Thats 3 of us now... fair to say this is now a known problem. Lets hope CETE resolves it in further productions. People looking for a controller may want to consider ASR as an alternative.

That’s a bit cheeky asking you to cover the shipping costs considering it was still under warranty! I suppose it’s quite a small package so wouldn’t have cost much.
I’ve sent them a message via their website so I’ll wait to see what they come back with, although I appreciate they may have other pressing matters at the moment!

Aye, the customer service did leave something to be desired.

Keep us posted mate :)

Hearing these issues you guys are having with CETE is why I went with a local dealer for ASR.
You rarely hear from the 99% of people that never had any problems. Mine was fine, ran like clockwork.

I had a response from CETE today so that was quick. He suggested I check the connections etc. as he suspected I had a wiring problem, I told him I had done that already. He then said the only option was to return the unit for investigation and that I would have to pay the postage, not very impressed to be honest but hopefully it won’t cost much.

Same thing they proposed to me, which frankly is not good enough. Tell you you want a replacement controller sent to you, and you will return the defective unit to them. In the end they did this for me. There is no reason you should have to tear your interior trim and plugs apart twice and be without a controller while they "test" it. They are aware this is an issue after having sorted mine, and they can diagnose the defect on their own time.

Get T-1000 on it if you have any grief over it. :)

Yeah that’s a good point, I’ll wait to see how they reply next as I told them I wasn’t happy about paying postage to return a faulty item to them.
It has actually worked perfectly today... I’ll see how it goes

Aye it is an intermittent issue it seems. Some days mine would work fine too, but then on a random restart it would do exactly as you described, a nd I couldn't replicate it if I tried, but it did get more frequent it its failure over time. My new one totally solved the issue and works fine. There is no doubt of a fault in the controller. They are aware of this issue, so there is no reason not to replace it at their own cost. You have to be firm with these guys as they don't seem to share our cultural values when it comes to customer service... if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the advise, I’ll keep you updated on how it goes with them. I’ll definitely push for a replacement first before sending this one back

They’ve replied with ‘Unfortunately we cannot pay the shipping costs. If you want we can accept the module and refund the buzzer’
That’s it. Very poor customer service really IMO, I might just persevere with it for now and see how it goes.
