Hi people new to the forum. It is
another knocking/clunking thread. Ive got a loudish clunk/knock coming mainly from the rear passenger side wheel area. When i set of normal theres a knock if i set of really slowly it doesnt do it. Sometimes 1-3rd gear if i put my footdown a bit its like a constant knock knock knock. Also If the car is parked up and i jump up and down in my seat It will knock. With the car on or off. Ive had the car on a ramp twice and both times technicians have said everything seems tight. Funnily enough the car drives fine and sometimes the noise does not be there. Also There is an occasional knock that comes from the front driverside too thats mainly if am parking up and brake. I dont know if the two are connected or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Age and mileage?

Rear suspension? Short of a goosed bush, I'd be looking at ARB links, or the rubber grommets the rear ARB arm sit in. Only other thing is the coil springs. Not unusual to lose a bit of coil spring with potholes. Even bumpstops on shocks can deteriorate but your technicians would have picked up on that.

If you're under there check the rear diff and any play on the driveshafts. Warning sign is wet diff which is goosed driveshaft or propshaft seal.

Front suspension, my money is either on top arms or ARB links.

Hi sorry should have mentioned its a 2013 with 70k miles on it. The diff looks dry. Driveshafts dont have any play. The propshaft is moving 1/2inch back n forth. Could that be the problem ?

On my B6 there was a clunking noise from rear when driving over pot holes at speed. Turned out that a bit of spring broke and was clunking about in the mount. That was driving me crazy as I couldn't find the source for quite a while.

What is the condition of propshaft bearing?

Hi just a quick update today i was parked in my driveway. Switched the car of got out and bounced the car side to side and front and back and it was making the knocking/clunking/banging noise. Which makes me think maybe suspension related.

Get a friend to rock the car around so you can determine the source. Maybe it is a worn bushing or something.
