Hi all

Has anyone experienced a faint ringing noise coming from the engine bay while driving their facelift S3? Note, this is not the waste gate rattle as seen on the pre-facelift models, as it's more of a metallic ringing/bell noise like when you rattle a pair of keys.

It get this noise under two conditions:
  • When in 6th or 7th gear between 2-3.000rpm and then giving mid to heavy throttle. Then the noise is pretty pronounced but it's very high pitch.

  • When releasing the throttle from 3.000rpm in lower gears as well. I can hear the sound very slightly here while the rpms drop but it's less pronounced than applying throttle in the higher gears.
Personally I think it's has something to do with the turbo so I'm glad I got the extended warranty for 1.5 years more :boxing:

Hi - I get this too when accelerating with a heavier foot than usual at motorway speeds. However, I’m in the measly 1 litre auto compared to the S3.

I’ve had similar noises in a Pug which had a turbo strapped to it as well. But I’ve been thinking it’s wind noise on the mirrors.

I’ve not been worried about it, kinda enjoy the noise, maybe getting me ready for the electric noises the future cars well make!

Don't get me wrong this is not turbo whine/spool noise. This is not a noise you would enjoy. It's sounds like a nut or something rattling lose.

If this is the last post I write in here before the S3 goes boom I just want you to know I love you all!
