Really don’t understand these gran coupe versions? If you want a 4 door 2/4 series why not buy a 3 series?

Cost mate, different price points, but BMW is overdoing it somewhat with X1-X7

I kinda get that with 2-3 series but am I the only one that thinks that they’re so ugly, they look like Kia’s... your shape X3 is one of the nicest looking bm’s out there, these new ones are horrible

I'm not a fan of BMW's new design direction to be honest, although I've never been much of a fan of their styling, particularly the kidney grilles.

The Bimmer does look good.

But ....

The ONE thing which really grates with me and once you see it you can't unsee it is the fuel tank .. why do they make it so visible from the rear ?

It really looks unsightly

I would say the 3 series 340i x-drive a more relevant comparison to A35, Golf r and S3, and from what I have heard (read) the 340i is pretty good

Surely the 3 Series is the next model up though? More an A4 competitor than the A3 / Golf?

The new 3 Series doesn't look that bad TBH, in a Vanilla kind of way, but just like the A4, it's a big old thing now.

Is it the fuel tank? I assumed it was the exhaust back-box.

Ah you could be right actually :icon thumright:

Either way I still don't like it being so visible.

On the 2 series they have even cut a section out of the rear valance so you can see it lol

They made a pigs ear out of designing the rest of the car too. Maybe that was their plan? Show the back box takes peoples eyes off the rest of the car !!

the xdrive badge on the rear looks rubbish too imo.

Went to BMW myself the other day starts nice Audi are taking their time with the A3/S3, and I must admit the new M135i does look beefy. It’s grown in size and interior quality seems much better than the current model. In terms of BMW I’ve narrowed it down to a 3 series, x3 m40d or a M135i. As I won’t be buying until Q1 2020, there might be other potentials Along the way.

New Golf gets previewed at the end of this month doesn’t it?

Yeah possibly, but then RS3 will no doubt be compared to this or M’s

Sorry, but that look awful. BMW have lost their way IMHO

No more than Audi have with some of the awful designs and engine choices, but agree not the best looking all round, but I quite like

Yes but not sure about the A3 as according to Autocar it’s March next year. I want to buy in April the latest so will be too late by then.

That is an absolute travesty. Mates C63 sounds unbelievable (extremely loud as well). To put a 4 cylinder in such a car is appalling.

we are not saving the planet with this low carbon stuff. The planet will be here regardless how we f*** it up. We are really trying to save the human race.

Of course, save the planet as we know it and for future generations of humans and animals and plants. :)

It’s a joke making the ultra performance cars more efficient, completely understandable for regular cars. The bigger issue is things like planes, private jets, diesel trains, big companies dumping waste, all these big factories in China etc just spewing out co2. Making performance cars more economical, in the bigger picture, is as futile as disgusting paper straws

You make some fair points but everyone (car makers included) must do their bit.

Plastic straws, cotton buds etc are something we can clearly do without. Plenty clear evidence out their about items like those and their impact on the marine environment.

It’s really not that deep, people forget climate change is a natural cycle and me not eating meat for 1 day a week, driving my car more economically and drinking a plastic straw isn’t gonna do a thing, even if we all do it, the cycle will continue.

If you really think about it, a C63 with a 6.2L V8 doing 11mpg and doing 6k miles a year is just as damaging environmentally as a C63 with a 2.5L 4pot that gets 30mpg doing 15k a year, because you’d just drive it more, if you’re getting more economy you’ll drive it more than you would with the V8.
Also got to take into account the countless hours of engine development and testing and all the new machining processes and use of rare materials involved in making the smaller engine perform to a higher level...

Sorry, but current evidence suggests that climate change is not just a cyclical thing.

Totally agree, they sell in such small numbers that the CO2 is insignificant. Massive transport ships, factories etc pump out all the sh*te not a small number of performance cars.

Ice Age 10k years ago and warmer today. You don't think we will have another Ice Age then if the cycle has somehow stopped?

What you’ve done their is effectively man maths I’m afraid.

As much as I’m a petrol head I accept things have to change, all electric might not be the way but we have to do what we can to make cars cleaner and more efficient. If that means losing noise and cylinders so be it.

This isn’t cyclical, ice caps are melting and the planet is warming , our climate is changing quickly. We all have to make changes no matter how small.

Agreed that there may well be some natural fluctuations but to turn a blind eye is very short sighted.

I get that a few high performing cars wont make a difference but tens millions of uneconomical cars each with one person in it stuck in endless traffic jams will.

Intensive farming is also a serious problem. Meat needs to get back to being a luxury item.

Climate change/global warming is a lie and a scam. They just want to tax the **** out of us. It is also politics, the west and America are trying to slow down the growth of developing countries especially China, who burn a shitload of coal to grow her economy and provide people with energy.
