RS3 grille on S3? facelift model

I didn't know that the RS3 grille needed modifications to fit the S3 bumper. Did you have to cut/trim anything?
Yes, we trimmed along the bottom of the grille and both lower corners so it doesn't foul the bumper. We have also cut slots into the lower part of the grille so it can use the factory fixing lugs on the bumper and fit as good well and secure as a standard grille.

Thanks! Did you trim the inside part only, not the visible outside part?

I don't own a 8V yet and I cannot buy your grille, but I'm selling my 8PA and it can take a while before I get a FL 8V. The RS3 grille will be one of the first mods on my list.

Hi,
yes just internal/hidden bits trimmed. Nothing visible on the outside of the grille.

I fitted mine last week. Got it off eBay it’s a genuine Audi one for £500 delivered.

Did you remove the Quattro letters by yourself? Or wasn't there any Quattro at all when you received the grille from a seller?

I got the one without the letters I’m not a fan.

Does anyone know if the rs3 grill would fit a3 with non-sline bumper? I don't see why they'd be that much different in size other than some fittings that need to be trimmed anyway between rs3 and s3 bumpers anyway.

I just fitted an aftermarket Chinese grill this weekend. It's possible to swap the existing S3 logo over with some cutting of the small bracket of the logo.

It was a pain in the a$$ to get room for the grill tho! The facelifted S3 has a pedestrian "airbag" system which is activated by a polystyrene/foam crash bar which sits in front of the metal crash bar (didn't even bother to remove it since it's a safety feature). Because the aftermarket grill doesn't has a cut out to have room for this foam bar I had to remove the plastic cover covering the foam crash bar and cut 1-2cm off the foam crash bar (which threw an airbag error but it could be cleared with OBDeleven and haven't seen it since).

I was a PITA but it was worth it!

Well done @Lehn ! Why did I think that you bought an OEM grille? I don't see any difference from the genuine one though, at least on images. Congratulations!

I have a question to everyone. I found this grille for sale in the UK: https://www.ultimatecustomsuk.com/products/audi-s3-8v-fl-to-rs3-grille Did you hear anything of this company before? They claim that their grille "Designed & manufactured to the highest quality, you wouldn't even notice it's an aftermarket piece." And the price of £310/360 looks attractive. Anyone knows them?

I am upgrading my PFL grill to an RS3 replica and asking the question about the torx30's at the sides. Is there 3 at both sides as I can only see two where the washer reservoir is .Is that correct? I have halted work as they are a pain to remove with having the car with the wheels off.

I've ordered a RS3 grille off Ultimate Customs. They promised to supply it without the "quattro" lettering. I'll report back when I receive and fit it.

It pops off any way it’s not fixed to it

What I mean is if it comes with it you just in lip it that’s what I have done

You are talking about the quattro letters, do you? If it was an OEM grille, I would de-badge it the usual way. But this grille is aftermarket and it would have holes in a place of the letters if I removed them. At least that what the seller at Ultimate Customs said. But he promised to order a grille without the letters. He also offered me two sets of the Audi rings, the black one that is attached to the grille from the manufacturer, and a chrome one in case if I changed my mind on the badge color.

Just finished the Grill install pictures below

With regards to the foam what have people done as I feel it gets in the way of aligning the bar correctly, I think I need to take it off as it’s pushing up hard against the grill

Iv cut off some of the foam but still feel it doesn’t help with alignment

I had to remove the big plastic part in front of the foam and cut the foam as well. You can’t remove the foam since this will trigger an airbag error. Be sure to unplug the battery if you’re going to do more work to the foam otherwise you might trigger the pedestrian airbag or throw an error code (I did that when I cut mine).

Pictures would help a lot. I hope someone would take them someday.

What does push against the grille, the bar or the foam?

The foam sits in the crash bar which then the grill pushes against, from looking at the S3 grill it has room for the foam bar as the RS3 grill doesn’t

Nah I didn’t have any errors there is no sensors for the foam, iv removed it to cut the foam which caused no problem but put it back on and had to really push the bar to get it in

From what I could see on a YouTube video of an RS3 front bar removal they don’t have that foam behind the grill it’s just the crash bar

Can the grille be trimmed in places where the plastic foam cover pushes against it? (I bet the crash bar is a thick metal bar attached to the car body just in front of intercooler and behind the foam, so there's a bit wrong terminology here).

Sorry what you just said is correct

Crash bar—> foam padding sits on crash bar—> grill/front bar

I might just remove the foam as when I test fitted without the foam the bar aligned perfectly without any struggle

Below is the S3 grill from inside and you can see a crevice for the foam to sit into which the RS3 grill doesn’t have

Sorry, I can't see it on the picture as I don't know what to look at.

Where did you get your grille from? I was waiting for mine for so long only to learn that the one I received wasn't good quality. I sent it back and am waiting for replacement for even longer than the first time. I guess I have to get a refund a buy it at another place. But where?

Just outlined it above where the number plate is it’s indented abit to make room for the foam.

I purchased my grill on eBay and got an original OEM.

If getting an original you will need to modify the bottom tabs on the grill to fit the bar as the tabs don’t line up

See below picture, I used a dremel tool for this

Thanks mate. I didn't think that part behind the number plate was indented. And I thought you bought a replica grille, not the oem one.

I received a RS3 grille from China a couple of days ago. Now I'm comparing it with the pictures of others'. It looks like it comes from the same mould as @Lehn's.

QUATTRO logo....????
There is the quattro logo sticker (like plast or rubber letters) in the package, as well as the RS3 badge, but ny ride is a FWD A3 S-line and those badges would be inappropriate.

How did you get on installing this?

I didn't. I hope I'll find time on Christmas holidays.
Ah fair enough mate, keep us updated if you don’t mind I’m interested in getting one for my car but wanted to know whether it was a fairly easy swap or not

It's a fairly easy install but, getting the old grille out is a pain and you'll need to cut (or remove) the foam on the crash bar

Thanks for the info, in all honesty I don’t think it’s something I’d attempt myself, probably ask my local Audi bodyshop if they’d fit it for me
