I'm having an issue where if i floor the throttle pedal the car goes but then seems to loose its boost. I had a similar issue yrs ago on my old UR Quattro & it was the boost pipes colapsing under load.
So i'm now thinking of replacing the (standard) intercooler pipes as they are probs the original ones with new silicone pipes & was just wondering ???
Would it be worth fitting a front mount at the same time ? Are they worth the time & effort on the S3 8L ?

Any constructive opinions please ?

do you have access to vcds to perform logs to see whats going on? (eg is it dropping into a limp mode of is it a physical thing like tip collapsing)

Thanks for the reply badger5.
I don't have VCDS at the min but do have a Foxwell NT650 & Autel maxi which was showing a N249 Fault the n249 solenoid has now been bypassed & fault code cleared (scanned since & fault hasn't returned)
The car has never gone into limp mode. It just seems there's intermittently something stopping it boosting properly.

Side mounts are just about adequate on a standard level of tune and become useless pretty quickly from a stage 1 map... FMIC is a must if you plan to tune the engine at all and expect to retain the power the mods/mapping gives you beyond the first cold run... power drops off real quick other wise no matter what the cold run results will give you

Cheers Tuffty.
This was basically what I was wanting to know. Any recommendations on best size to go for that will require minimal modification on fitting please ?

I would normally point you too the FMIC thread in the FAQ's... that however can be a bit overwhelming these days..

Essentially the choices depend on budget, end game power wise and modding abilities... best bang for buck is the infamous 'welly' cooler which is a toyosport type B (watch out for copies as the build quality means they don't actually cool very well) but needs the most modding to make fit depending on what look you are happy to deal with... generally means that pipe work is on show and could also require foglights to be removed but if done right fogs can be retained and pipes can be hidden... the FMIC thread will have examples of both approaches

Next up would be the Airtec FMIC... much easier to fit... pipes are generally hidden and in general works well... it does start to lose its edge if used with a hybrid K04 and is not very good at all on big turbo stuff

Beyond that its something like the AH Fabrications V2... this is an excellent FMIC and is the one I have supporting over 600hp... it is not cheap these days however and generally speaking the welly cooler can be made to fit for much less and it is just as effective... the AH Fabs V2 is however as close to 'plug n play' as you will get other then the Airtec..

Haha...
I was actually looking at a 600x280x65mm Welly Cooler & one of those e-bay alloy pipe work kits. All 63mm I.D. comprises x2 u bends x2 90d bends x2 45d bends x2 straight pipes all alloy. Then x8 silicone coupling pipes plus x16 propper pipe clamps.
Hopefully should do the job

Would a cooler measuring ( Core Size: ) 450mm x 227mm x 65mm ( Over All Size ) 540mm x 230mm x 65mm be sufficient ? It's rated capable of 450bhp however I'm not looking for anywhere near that.

link?

I'd take the rating with a pinch of salt dude... as for the size... not sure... something that small won't have many rows to iit so will be a comprimise flow wise and from a heat exchange perspective too...

Airtec
https://www.airtecmotorsport.com/pr...attro-front-mount-intercooler-conversion-kit/

Toyosport type B in black...

I would advise against using T-Bolt clamps (assuming that's what you mean by 'proper')... use a decent worm drive clip such as the JCS Hi-Torque clips... T-Bolts are generally rubbish tbh...

The FMIC thread will give you an idea whats needed pipe wise for welly cooler style FMIC's but the key thing fitment wise is that the outlets on the end tanks need to sit right at the bottom of the cooler... the welly style don't... this is why the pipes generally run through the grilles...

You can see what I did when I was developing the AH Fabs V2 for mine in the FMIC thread to give you an idea of fitment issues..

Thanks tuffty appreciate your time.

I've checked the Toyosports cooler you suggested & it looks a nice bit of kit. Can you tell me if it goes behind the bumper O.K. though (i know the bumped bar needs modding to take a fmic) just the Overall Length 780mm which is a fair size. lol If it does i've also looked at this if its any good ?

eBay item number: 153622291315

As i'd get some pipework to play with
