NOTE: I know there a plenty of threads about the GFB DV+ but for some reason the search fuction on this site doesn't seem to be working. Keep getting no results found.

Anyway... Not sure if anyone has shared this before but there's an interesting article about the GFB DV+ vs the GFB VTA. Link here: https://www.motorverso.com/comparison-dv-vs-vta-vs-standard-diverter-valve-golf-gti/

According to the article the VTA dumps to atmosphere rather than recirculating it making for more sound.

I thought the idea of recirculating was good to help keep the pressure up and the idea that the old school BOV's are just dumping useful pressure away?

What you lads think? DV+ or VTA?

I’ve just removed my VTA believing there was an issue with it. Turned out to be the MAP sensor but during my research I was advised that the latest revision OEM DV was the best choice so I’ve just stuck with it.

You will find that most people will suggest a recirculating DV rather than losing pressure with a vent to atmosphere DV.
If you want the DV that won’t leak boost at all (until the diaphragm splits) it is the oem valve revision G.
That said, I just changed one on a TT that I fitted a G to 50,000 miles ago and it was still fine. Whilst it was apart, I fitted a new one for peace of mind.
Regarding the DV+, they work well but there have been some reliability issues where the brass piston sticks in the black housing. Maybe lack of initial lubrication but certainly dropping it on the floor will make it go out of shape slightly and so sticks.
If you are desperate for one, check the tiny O ring on the little black plunger is a dark brown / black colour and not orange. There is a known fault where the orange O ring will split whereas the brown o ring is an upgrade and more robust.
They are certainly not fit and forget and so a regular clean and re oil will benefit. Not a bad job on a K04 but a pain on the K03.

Yea I always heard the same that recirc is better than dumping.

I checked mine and it's a G revision. No sign of it being changed in my service history and my car (2011) has done 55k now.
Getting a stage 1 at R-Tech in September and I know they check it all over anyway.
Been thinking I might replace it anyway as it won't hurt to and then was reading about the DV+.

RTech will always recommend the Rev G and they will fit one for you but you may pay labour charges.

There's more than enough noise with big cold air intake like itg maxogen and recirculating DV+... it's loud as hell...

Yea I had my RamAir oversized fitted yesterday and it makes plenty of woosh sounds!

Also flutters and sounds like dumping.. is this normal?

I have the DV+ and I wouldn’t say there’s a lack of noise! Combined with the revo intake and new fmic sometimes I feel like I’m driving a scooby

Don’t GFB - stick with the factory Rev G. RTech told me to replace my DV+ as it was leaking boost and they were seeing this occurring a lot more often. Reverting back to the factory have 10bhp more on the rollers.

I’m not saying what RTech says is what everyone should follow but they are seeing the before and after affects on the same engine. If you’re booked with them in Sept why not stick with Rev G and ask them while you’re there?

Flutters and sounds are normal not you have the intake.

Sweet, yea to be honest they were the reason I haven't bought one. I was going to ask what they thought but I know they will say avoid lol... well that's that then!

I have run a DV+ for some time now, i also got 381 bhp on the rollers so to claim that you are losing 10bhp with a DV+ is nonsense, especially when R-Tech very rarely achieve those sorts of figures anyway even with a REV G

One of the real failings of the interweb are these never ending customer reviews. Perfectly good products that have been professionally designed, tested and produced are rubbished by a few wanna be mechanics and companies that have invest thousands lose out. Some companies are even posting bad reviews on forums just to rubbish their competition. As far as i am aware someone ripped off the DV+ and started selling them on ebay for £40.00. These failed pretty quickly and the blame was laid at GFB. You buy a Rolex in a market in Turkey for £30 and it last 2 weeks it doesnt make Rolex a bad watch.

One of the problems with being here too long like me is you get the same old nonsense come round year after year, Revo is useless, std exhaust is useless, Milltek are useless, DV+ and generic maps...useless, std brakes are useless and so on.
I would put my car with is std exhaust that sounds awesome, its dv+ that flutters and farts and its generic map up against any other stg 2+ S3

Yea I've seen so many mixed reviews on that GFB DV+... If I was to buy one where would be the best place, was looking at awesome gti website. I never use eBay.

@paddy I think you’ve had a good run with your DV+. Maybe it’s like the original Revo intakes - they were a better built quality build?

I’m not bagging the DV+ at all - you know I only run genuine products which included the DV+. On the dyno chart you could see the boost being dumped. It wasn’t the actuator and on changing to the stock DV there was a complete change, holding boost deeper into the Rev range resulting in better numbers.

From my perspective I’d rather purchase 2x Rev G dv over a single DV+. Personal preference.

As per tuners claims - I’ve only got experience of RTech and Unicorn. It’s RTech all day for me.

Two very interesting reviews from Paddy and Samuel. But, what are the advantages/implications with the VTA? The OP’s link doesn’t really give you any ‘DV+ vs VTA’ answers either?

Well, the Vent to Air - these engines metre all the air they take in. I’m not really sure why but if you start dumping the air then as I understand it it takes longer for your turbo to spool back up as you need to rebuild the pressure/volume (within the ic?). This (loss off metred air) can cause the ECL to come on. However, under boost there is issue, the car will still accelerate the same but it’s to its detriment between gears. I’m probably talking bull-sh1t so happy to be corrected.

I have no experience of the VTA so it wouldn't be fair of me to comment but i think i did read its mostly about noise ?

That’s what I understood from the article aswell, could be wrong tho...
Interesting that there’s a bad opinion of the dv+ as when I looked before I found nothing but positive reviews and recommendations

The conclusion I’ve drawn from this is as long as your OEM diverter valve is tip top then it’s as good as anything else on the market. If this were to fail then the GFB DV+ is a worthy replacement because it’s stronger and improves upon the parts that probably failed. The VTA....no because it’s at least partly atmospheric.

:highly amused:
I'm talking about diverter valve that doesn't add that much to the equation.

I can agree about standard map. I can't believe that audi sold these cars with broken maps. Thankfully stage 2+ fixed that..
