Coding an EGR on an A4 B7

(Also posted in the A4 B7 section, sorry)

I recently fitted a brand new VDO EGR to an A4 B7 2.0 tdi 170 and within a few weeks it’s started throwing up a fault. Would it be possible that this needs coding to the car?

shouldn't be... checked the wiring/connector?
What specific fault codes does it show?
 
I’ve actually sold the car to a friend at work, ‘his mate’ has scanned it for him. I’m doing my own check with VCDS in the morning so I’ll be able to shed more light then....
