Hi,

I was hoping someone could help out ASAP. I have a 64 plate SQ5, My front brakes are warped (as verified by going on a rolling road) and I'm getting them replaced tomorrow. I've been told that by an indy garage that there is no 3rd party after spares for the brake discs and I have to use Audi replacements? The discs are coming in at £212 each! But when I go on eurocarparts or GSF I put my reg in and there are numerous discs, say brembo for example, that supposedly fit my car? these are only £130 for one.

Can someone help advise on this??

Thanks in advance

Hey, also interested in hearing what people have paid... i found this service 'click mechanic', but price seems to go to be true:

Let us know how you get on and what you ended up paying.

definitely is a patented part. When they took the old discs off, the mechanic from the indy garage said he had never seen a pin arrangement like it before on the inside hub (i saw the hub and pins as well). Discs cost £212 each. ouch.

Just had my 2016 Q7 discs and pads replaced.

I got various quotes for the discs from the web, booked the car in at a local garage, I've used regularly in the past, only to get a call from said garage, to say the parts were Audi only and that they would only be able to source them from an Audi dealer. So I had to bite the bullet and stump up £1100 for brake-pads, discs and labour at an Audi dealer. Only 46k miles too

Ouch, so are the rears also audi only?? I will need them done at some point so just preparing myself for the worst!

Is there know where local you can get them Skimmed on the Car, Up in Aberdeen we have a Guy with a Machine that does it on the Car , Takes no time at all and good as New once done...

It's only now the job has been done did I know they could be skimmed, the mechanic said the same as well.

Just had mine PRO-CUT.

ALL four brake discs skimmed to eliminate inner and outer wear 'lips' (@ £40/disc) and then a NEW set (front and rear) of Ferodo Eco-Green brake pads - FDB4969 fronts and FDB4190 rears @ £127.00 (eBay buyanycarpart) both sets: less dust and lots of 'bite' :racer:

Sorry if this is a dumb question... With the pro-cut/skimmed disc being thinner than the original, does this cause any issues?

Not a dumb question at all but a very important/responsible one: brake discs usually have a 2mm (0.080") max to min thickness and so that's worth checking first. For example, my SQ5's 380mm diameter front brake discs have a 'new' thickness of 36mm and a 'minimum' wear/worn thickness of 34mm.

My front discs had something like a 0.2mm (0.008") lip on both the outside in inside diameter(s) and both inside and outside faces; so I had the Pro-Cut remove those lips prior to fitting new pads - disc thickness now 35.5mm

And after 130-miles the Ferodo Eco-Green brake pads are superb (and improving) with great low-speed 'bite' and very little dust - highly recommended
