Good morning

Cleaned my A3 for the first time and noticed that both sets of rear lights have white spots on them.

I have only had the car a week (used) so have only just noticed it!

I assume it may be paint? But not sure why or how.

Any advice of how to remove it? Without damaging the lights.

I would use white spirit, but try just a little in a small inconspicuous area first.

The main problem I think, is that if your lights have these white paint spots, then I wouldn’t be surprised if some of this paint will also be covering your body paint......what colour is your car?

It could be paint, it could also be compound/polish from a rotary if you haven’t had it for that long but most likely paint.

Yeah I’m thinking it’s paint too :confounded:

What’s best to clean it off the lights?

Someone at work recommended WD40?

+1

Either is compound or paint overspray. Could use IPA Panel wipe, WD40, white spirit and in the last instance some rag soaked with a little petrol. Works wonders of needed . No smoking though

Start with that as you probably have some already, then try IPA, if you don’t have any of that you could use some old aftershave/perfume.

Don’t forget to use something soft like a micro fibre cloth or cotton wool.

Failing the above, a whole lot of patience, a damp MF cloth and strong picking finger nails.

Looks like they have done a repair somewhere on the back of your car and the overspray has got on the lights, it will probably be on your paint as well! Clay & lube should get it off easily enough.

Have you tried a little lube and clay. Wouldn't use white spirit on new paint may cause a reaction. then you might need a full bumper respray. Start the least aggressive removal method and work up. Chemicals are usually quite harsh straight out the bottle

As above. Used clay to remove overspray before and works very well

I’d steer clear of using ipa on tail lights, it can cause then to crack, try using clay first

I’ve seen it happen especially if the unit is warm or hot, it’s happened to me and I’ve had to replace a tail light on a car before at my cost lol
