Next model A3

Ah, one of those old school comments. Apart from doing handbrake turns, which I doubt you do given the above, what exactly is a plus of a manual handbrake?

I'm in control 100% of the time. This is not the case with the one in my A3.

It usually works fine but occasionally throws a wobbly and doesn't release. This most likely happens when trying to reverse.

My bro has just got a brand new Mini Cooper S with a fair few options for around £29k, so when you look at the price for the 1.0 A1 it looks even more daft! Now I know Audi may be more ‘prestige’ but what exactly does that mean nowadays?! The Mini is probably built just as well.

The Mini also came with a manual handbrake

Audi is not more prestige than MINI.

Audi is not more prestige than MINI.

Well the likes of the new A6/A8 may disagree.

The point I was making though is that Audi is seen as a prestige brand supposedly which I think has made them a bit deluded with their pricing. That and having to claw money back from dieselgate etc

Fair enough. MINI is comparable to an A1 in terms of quality, not an A8.

Audi may be better trying to gain the public's trust by selling a great new car at a reasonable price, not by jacking the price up.

I think generally it is. I’d rather a top of the range mini over a bottom of the range A1 - just, outside of that, AUDI win hands down. IMHO of course, and also I just dont like minis, I find them annoying for some reason. That said the new A1 is ludicrously expensive.

Annoying? Interesting assessment!

I've owned 5 new MINIs.

Given that the new base A1 is more expensive that my current (base) A3 I think I will probably move on when I change next year.

Back to MINI, an Up GTI, a Golf or a Fiesta are all on the short list.

That was my point, I agree the A8 isn’t compatible but then overall Audi is a more prestige brand.

Also agree with your second point, they’ll end up pricing themselves out of the market! Already there’s probably more people on here thinking of leaving Audi or going with used than getting another brand new one.

My wife is looking for a new car at the moment to replace her 3 year old Polo. The choice is between a new Polo and the new A1. Did a config of the spec she wants this afternoon and the A1 came ot just £70 more than the Polo. The Polo has a 95bhp engine where as the A1 has 116bhp. Both priced with a DSG/s-tronic. Next stage - test drives.

So, the Polo is way over priced too?

Weird that the A1 isn't going to come with a diesel.

There be more engines, but diesels are not the flavour of the month at the moment, and dealers are struggling to shift them at least used ones. My in
Laws just bought a used Mini Countryman and wanted petrol and not diesel as they hardly do miles, but ended up opting for clubman with 1.5 petrol as most countryman were diesel. Dealer said diesel are hard to shift

Depends what you're comparing it it with!

Other small cars. I sat in one and apart from the big screen I didn't think the quality was that good.

Probably quite a few factors for the A1 Range

New smaller petrol engines are a lot more efficient than only a few years back

Smaller car/A1 drivers will typically be lower mileage users and therefore diesel might not make sense especially with the current price per litre

Diesel seems to be seen as the devils fuel at the moment

Will be interesting if diesel is dropped from the next A3 Range.

These prices don't bode well for the new platform A3 when that is launched next year.

Audi may end up alienating a lot of loyal customers by pushing the prices up 'too far' and I am still to be convinced on the interior styling, based on the direction they appear to be taking with this.

£30k for a decent spec A1 is way too much IMO.

I’m going 2nd hand for next purchase,1 of the below;

Boxster S 987
BMW 335d Tourer X drive
Nissan Navarra or Mitsubishi L200

Budget 15 - 20k max

I should really go with the pick up or xdrive for the country lanes and dog but I have an itch for the 3.4s.
Bit of a difference in cars there :tearsofjoy: I’ll be looking at Porsche Cayman for my next car, wouldn’t be new probably 13/14 reg but think I’d miss the tech!

Possibly the new 1/2 series too if they launch an xdrive m version, they seem to come in a lot cheaper than Audi’s equivalent models and BMW have really upped their interior game.

I’d agree 30k odd for A1 is too much imo I’d be expecting to be in a S1 for near that price, list price for an S3 3door was just over 30k this time last year wasn’t it!

Edit - just had a look on the configurator you don’t even get a flat bottom steering wheel or dual zone climate control standard anymore!

Agree with that. Sat in a m40i X3 over the weekend and really liked interior. Probably something to do with fact it is performance range but bodes well for those waiting on the new 3 series

Agree on interior of bmw upping their game, I too may look a a xdrive m240 or similar should one arrive which is likely in some form

Yes from what I’ve read online the 2 series will be launched a little while after the 1 series. I wouldn’t mind a 1 series but it may mean getting a 5 door as rumour has it they’ve dropped the 3 door model like every other manufacturer seems to be doing.

I would hope that is a VERY bad photo of turbo blue as it looks totally washed out.

The audi publicity photo looks great.

There's a recent thread on here on the A4 so I wont duplicate it showing a vid and pics ...but here is another pic from 'gay paree'

I know S-Line Trim - £450 for Dual Zone Climate Control - This is their top trim apart from S and RS and we'll give you manual air conditioning - Thanks!!

I hope they keep the 2.0 TDI for the new A3, great engine.

Hmmm I thought was a decent colour ?

Well it looked terrible in comparison to your voodoo pup lol :icon thumright:
My phone camera ain't the best mate as it either over or under exposes colours, lve seen a riviera facelift sportback rs3 a few times it looks very nice and very very loud too loud for my tastes especially on a saloon A3 but that R8 looked ****** awesome in the metal
