Tyres

A very good tyre by all accounts, I had ps3's on my focus and couldn't fault them...

Pilot Sport 4 is the successor to the Pilot Super Sports. They're a much better tyre than the PS3 :)

I'm guessing my car will be fitted with Hankooks, as it's now en route to Emden.

On collection from the dealer mine were all 3psi higher than they should have been. In my experience this is normal on all the new cars I've had...or indeed if I've had them repaired or replaced. Always best to check immediately after collecting your car from a garage / dealer.

Yeah I've had that before too but I'll check them tomorrow or sunday as I'm not going to use the car again until monday..

I've got the optional 19" Titanium alloys on my S-Line. They are fitted with Hankook Ventus Evos. They have been superb so far!

If I am correct the pressures for 18" wheels are 36 front and 33 rear, just checked the offside ones and they're at 36.5 front and 35 rear, so I need to let some air out..

The nearside tyres were slightly further out and higher so I think I will be able to feel a difference...

What's mileage are you getting from your tyres, either 18s or 19s?

190 tdi sline 18 wheels, just had the Hankooks changed on the front today, 10500 miles and only 2mm left, absolutely shocking in the wet, just changed for Michelin pilot sport 3 so fingers crossed will last longer than 10k with better grip!

The rears are also down to less than 4mm already!?

Brand new SLine 190TDI A4 Avant last week came with Bridgestone. Noticed a bit of traction loss at junctions, but the roads here are pretty crummy/crumbly so not too surprised about that. Usually get Michelin PS or Eagle F1s... both have been fantastic on the Civic, long lasting, quiet and plenty of wet grip.

Slightly old thread I know, but any idea what tyres Audi are fitting to 19" alloys these days? Should have my A4 Avant 2.0 TFSI (190 ps) Black Edition with 19" wheels by June end, just curious to know what tyres they'll come with.
Cheers

TBH the newest Hankook tyres are very good. I believe the ones fitted to the Audi are the Ventus EVO 2 tyres.

Found this article which seems to confirm that they are indeed the EVO 2.

If I was given the choice of Bridgestones or Hankooks I would take the Hankooks.

Can't fault them on my S5, Insane amounts of grip in the dry and wet. Even handled the snow as well as a non-winter Tyre can.

Mine came with Continental in November, though I'm sure at the time people were getting various makes and it seemed like pot luck.

I had Pirelli P Zeros on my 19's, they looked great, with huge protection over the rim of the alloy wheel but the lifespan of them was useless - they would have been better off using elastic bands. Am just in the process of switching to Hankook S1 Evo's - RO1 fitment gives some alloy wheel protection, hopefully they'll last longer than the Pirellis!

I had P Zero Rosso’s on my 8P A3 back in 2010. The fronts lasted precisely 14,000 miles which I thought was appalling, given that I drove quite normally and didn’t throw it round corners, brake hard or make the tyres scream when pulling away. My tyre dealer replaced them with some different Pirelli’s (which I can no longer remember) and they wore much better.

The 18 inch Hankooks have been rubbish for grip in the wet / winter conditions and are nearing the depth markers at 7000 miles on my 2.0 TSFI (190) !

Looks like the Michelin Pilot 4s are the best option but I have also found Bridgestone S001 good all round on previous cars.

Cost could be the deciding factor.

Any recommendations for the best rim protection, its very changeable within the brands and size you require?

Mine came with Pirelli Cinturato P7, the first car I've had with Pirellis. They performed well in the wet/snow, I estimate I can get another 5000 miles out of them before they reach the depth markers, the car has just clocked up 10k miles. The rim protectors on them are very good.

I went through the hankooks in 10k miles on a 2.0 tdi... The new car came with pilot sport 4 and they are really good... My colleague has the Bridgestone on his a4 they seem to last forever but really noisy

Strange because mine have still have a good life left in them after around 7500 miles and I notice them to be no worse than the conti's on my 1.4 A3 were for grip, wet or winter conditions. If fact I managed to get my car into places our michelin shod fiesta couldn't in snow

I need two new 19" tyres. I'm debating whether to get the same Hankook Ventus S1 EVO2 tyres in R01 fitment that I currently have, or going with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in non-Audi fitment.

I'm replacing the tyres because the wheels are bent and have caused premature wear on the shoulders, but they still have ~3.8mm on them after 20000 miles so I can't complain about their longevity.

Has anyone fitted the Michelin PS4S tyres yet? I'm nervous that fitting generic tyres may cause warranty claim disputes down the road.

I would check with your dealership however I doubt if fitting the PS4's would cause warranty issues..

I'm getting two new R18 front Michelin PS4 tyres fitted tomorrow, but they are not the 'S' version's.

I looked at getting PS4S tyres fitted but I think my very quick Google search told me they start at R19 and don't make them for R18 or smaller.

I'm hoping the new front PS4's will give better traction than the factory Bridgestones. I'm surprised how easy the fronts let go while pulling away even in dry conditions. I know a front wheel drive torquey diesel can have this characteristic but still hoping for a bit more grip with Michelin PS4.

Should have got the Quattro !

Wow, some real misinformation in here! Seem to be a lot of people dismissing entire brands based on one bad tyre or experience they had. I understand the logic, but it's really quite flawed, most brands have several dozen models of tyre ranging from £40 budget tyres to £300 high performance ones. I've got some Hancook Ventus V12 EVO2's on my Leon Cupra and they're pretty good for the money. Prior to that I had Michelin Pilot Super Sports. There is not a massive difference in grip, the Super Sports slightly edge them. But I wore them down to 2mm in less than 8,000 miles, while the V12 EVO2's are at 5mm after the same mileage, and were cheaper.

I meant to change my winter tyres back a few weeks ago but only got round to it this morning. Really impressed that the garage said there's more than enough wear in them for another winter as I've done over 12,500 miles since I put them on on 6th December. Conti Winter Contact 850P. They were brilliant in the three big bouts of snow we had, but wouldn't be cost-effective if they only lasted one season.
