What have you done today?

check here - for an air leak it is a weird push fit rotating connector - I just put a jubilee clip on it.

I will check, thanks for the info.
btw, just heard from the dealer, parts have arrived so I can test further on Saturday (car is parked 140km away for the moment)

Picked up a r32 today a nice 4hr drive back from Ipswich to Manchester
As I needed a decent daily

That garage is not far from me... and I was tempted by your Miltek...

Pleased with the new car?

Yeah so far so good just need to code out the seat belt warning it was driving me mad on the way home, even though I had my belt on every now and then it would start beeping till I tapped the buckle

See if you can arrange a courier if your interested and I will try and package it the best I can

Did just shy of 500 miles in my S3 today.

Sitting at around 80 - 85mph as much as possible on the motorway, cruise control on I achieved an actual calculated 36MPG average. DIS read around 32 - 33MPG average most of the time.

This is with Bills hybrid set-up with all the supporting mods @ 348BHP.

I still had enough fun on some A roads to use 2/3rds of a tank of meth up too.

Consider my gob smacked.

My DIS is fading in heat so its tempting but not currently at the expense of losing external sensors and nav display...

<tuffty/>

Hopefully they can suss out developing thst side of things... or maybe. I should. LOL I have no idea about computer programming though

Finally got my s3 mapped. Went to badger 5. Very pleasant experience hanging out with these guys!

Made 305bhp 274ft lbs on bbt hybrid.

Issues with the intercooler I fitted prevented more power. I fitted a Carbage cooler and as a result could only keep intake temps 60++

So new cooler, bar and plate one. Then take it from there.

Really happy with the car and badger 5! :)

Replaced both headlight clips (without removing headlights - tricky but do-able).

Now need to adjust/level up both xenons...

Foggies retained with this DIY front mount. Definitely much easier when you get a kit. But this is the most cost effective way. Just need a bunch of tools to get there.

What do you think of the 32 mate? Things still going ahead on the s3?

I am liking the r32 sounds mint and covers the family needs. The s3 is definitely going nowhere but what to do with it I'm unsure do I rebuild it and go hybrid/bt route or stick a 3.2 engine in and supercharger or turbo that . Since it's going to take me a while to do and I plan on keeping it for many years to come I'd like to do something a bit different with it

Not so much 'what have you done today' but I've achieved some much needed basic DIY goals this week:

1. New hoses, pipes and valves to refresh the crankcase breather system. (To cure a misfire...didn't work but good to do anyway.)
2. Replacement ignition control module. (To cure a misfire. After much testing of cabling and coil packs...a lot learned and the problem was solved.)
3. Degrease and clean around injectors under fuel rail - lots of mucky build up around there which I want to keep an eye on in case it's a problem. Will be taking the manifold off later for a proper clean and inspection of injectors. Some top tips or a good guide would be helpful with this if anyone knows of such a thing?
4. Removed seized front wiper mechanism. Attempted to repair (the old hammer out the spindles method) but ruined the thread on the drivers side spindle which just wouldn't budge out. Removed and cleaned the pollen filter while the scuttle was off.
Took a trip to the breakers and found a replacement mechanism in a Mk4 Golf GTi - whipped that out for £35 and took it home.
Discovered the Golf has a different wiring connector than my A3, but it was easy enough to swap motors (3 10mm bolts and a 13mm nut and the two units are completely interchangeable). So I now have GTi wiper speed
5. Reversing light wasn't working. Located reversing light switch and discovered the plastic connector was just hanging there blowing in the breeze instead of sitting nicely in place on the switch. So, reversing light fail problem solved. New issue: said plastic connector has warped over the years and won't clip in place. It's taped currently, which isn't good. Trying to find a replacement clip. I've looked at ordering a replacement switch but they don't seem to come with the plastic connector - I might go back to the breakers....

Finished off with a nice WD40 clean up of the black plastic engine covers and airbox. Not a popular choice but I like the covers - because they have "Turbo" on which is always cool!

All in all a good week.

I noticed a little bit of rust on the lip of my front wings, took the splash shields off and had a good clean up.Looks like this has never been cleaned in 15 years and it was on my to do list before AITP17.

Rubbed down and painted the areas as needed.

Did a scan on the car and had code 17863-p1455 so i may have a failing EGT.Cleared the code and when for a drive but the code has not come back,i will keep an eye on my MPG.

Where you gunna put that???

Pre Facelift a3's golf 4's, skoda octavia's and passat b5's and 5.5's share a common dome light design, they dont have the bigger 8p style dome that the facelift models came with.

my current dome light

this is how much better it will look (that is a grey one and grey ones are like gold)

Picked this up on Gumtree while doing some random browsing, it was pretty cheap, pretty nice guy he even delivered it to my work during his lunch, doesnt work on his car since he has the red 20 pin connector, same like me but i do have a spare 32 pin connector so im sorted,

only issue is I hope it works, he said the dis is faded so maybe i'll decide on the colour dis mod for this baby.

You've got a big soldering session ahead of you to convert your plugs to the 3 colours...
