Interesting job today - Keep an eye on your vehicles!

I'm sorry to report this but Keys can be copied at a dealers when the car is being worked on then sold to crims, I don't think there is much you can do?

Absolutely no way possible would be traced back to who used ODIS to copy the new key.

Why do you think you need a CRB check to use Genuine ODIS simply because of the functions it is capable of such as accessing the immobiliser.

Not even a pass though is fully capable of all functions the genuine tool is.

This would need to be done with online ODIS There for needing a login code for access to the immobiliser

100% this. Genuine ODIS logs and records everything from basic long coding changes though to Key coding etc both locally and online to the VW Group cloud and every "user" has a unique ID. I was actually shocked that it had no offline mode when I first tried to use it.

Yes Alix very limited if you are offline would not even be worth using the subscription fees are shocking.

Can only be used online in my case as authorised 3rd parties do not get access to the same franchise network / VPN and certificates that dealers use... even an auto scan carries a fee :( Have to carry a portable hotspot around with me and a sim card for every mobile network in order to make sure I have connectivity lol

Great & expensive bit of kit VAS 6154 so advanced with the capabilities it offers.

Lot of folks are gaining access to GEKO by pass through tool obviously dangerous when flashing.

Yer, while researching and pricing up I saw that people were using pass through interfaces with ODIS but was also reading the horror stories. During my interview with VW Group I questioned pass through use and was told that all being well (CRB check etc) they would still allow me to use ODIS but would provide no support unless I used the 6154. Ended up purchasing two kits for resiliency.

Good decision especially you have support from VW for any enquiries or problems you encounter.

Would be nice to know the support on current ECU on higher end VAG models access to all modules?.

Lamborghini Bentley porsche?.

Not had a reason to use ODIS on a Bentley or Porsche as yet, VCP works nicely tho :)

Non of the vehicles are posted on my blogs, because they are very identifiable, but I see a lot of Lambo's and have had no issues with ODIS as yet. Been out to one Bugatti and had no issues talking to that also, other than not wanting to give the keys back to the owner!

Unplug your micro-wave oven. Stash your keys inside and close the oven door. All microwaves have a Faraday cage built in and will block ALL radio frequencies. Don't believe me? Put your mobile inside , close the door and try ringing it. If it rings, you have a faulty microwave and the oven needs to be binned as its probably dangerous anyway.
Unplugging it stops you frying your keys accidentally ;)

learn something new every day lol

Yer, owners were fine :)

I have an idea on how this was done but it would not be a good idea to discuss on an open forum as you never know who's watching.

Time to get beep on lock and unlock coded on our cars in order to make sure everything is secure... and start relocating them OBD ports guys... maybe even cut a wire and install a switch somewhere in the car.

Is it possible to change the volume of the beep on lock/unlock? Mine is very quiet whereas my friends is very loud on his Ibiza.

This thread reminded me of a WiReD Magazine video that I was shown on a course I did:

Basically your key isn't the only 'entry' into your car systems. The more complex crims get the more they exploit any 'entry' point in your car. The guys copying keys are well known because they are generally low level crims the cars that just 'disappear' these cars may have been exploited in a different way.

Exploited in a different way explain more no offence to you mate but that mindset is wrong.

The technology used in this video is too advanced for your average opportunity thief or thieves these guys in the video are more likely security experts who advise on exploiting vulnerability do you think most of the public have access to this technology.

The dirtbags running the scanning tools are using multiple MHZ frequencies to steal vehicles it is very simple basic stuff the technology in that video you would need rain man or Stephan hawkin on the job for this to work.

The mobile phone is on a different frequency.......

Microwave operates on 2.45 GHZ so the Faraday cage only keeps that frequency contained.
