What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

@Dan-1981 it sounds like a resistor fault. Where did you get the bulbs from?

I have had the intermittent plate / brake light warning since I had the car (almost 3 weeks) just been to the tip and it came on and went out when I re started the car.

The plate LEDs were off Ebay, a seller with loads of good feed back and UK based (well that what he said, it came the next day from a uk address)

Hey guys.

Just a little update

Kinda sorted the front end out and lowered it a little more. What you think

Hi carl,

The only indication is the DIS saying lamp out, then it goes off again.

When I pulled in to the drive the other night the brake light warning was on (car driver side, not boot) so I used an old Naval engineers trick, tapped it and the lamp came back on.

REF: the rear licence plate, I swapped the lamps for LEDs. Previously I had a spurious DIS warning which came and went.

When I removed the licence lens I found the passenger side one was bone dry, but the lamp looked burnt out but worked. The driver side one had some water in it at some stage, the lamp connections were coated in white powder and the two copper contacts in the tail gate had a little darkening on them. So I cleaned the lamp holder and copper contacts. Greased all the rubber seals and screw thread.
After installing both lamps and holders, the drivers side one (that had some moisture in it) flickered then settled down. I have not scanned it yet.

Any thoughts, or is my car possessed.

Haha nope, you're car is not posseessed!

Its just that the rubber sealing that holds the licence plate lights over time, no longer keep the water/condensation out.

Ive tackled this and my opinion would be to purchase a new set of lights and holders (just to have peace of mind for the future)..basically a complete set.

Looks like you have treated it quite well but what worked for me was to get fine grade sandpaper, cut a small circle in it and attach it to the end of a chop stick. Yes..a chop stick! Then go over the burnt area lighlty until its totally gone. Blow off the burnt/corroded substance and spray contact cleaner over it.

Put the new light back in and enjoy! :)

Cheers Dr S,

I'll give it a bash tomorrow after the garage have done the slush box, any recommendations on where to get a decent set of lamps and holders?

Well I have fitted new discs and pads and a brake fluid change. Since I fitted the brembos I had a vibration that has got progressively worse thought it maybe corrosion on the hub's but I cleaned all that up and last week I just got sick of it so ordered new parts. So everything all bolted up today and tickety boo. Stops like a good un so all I can assume is that the discs weren't running true from when I bought them. No way of proving this obviously but it's sorted now. One thing I did notice was the braided hoses seem a little short. They are rs4 Hel ones but on full lock seam a little tight anyone else with this issue?

got my brake lines with the ebay kit trigg, same calipers and my are fine on full lock mate no stretch on them at all, just hope mine dont start vibrating like yours have, lol.

you tried any other wheels other than your standard s line one's yet mate, i'm having to try before i buy now as i need at least 42mm from the hub to the spoke to clear the caliper

So did the Dr strange solution and it has worked, will find out tomorrow when I take her for a run to the garage. Might have ******** the screw though.

Ive got some Porsche wheels on mine from a cayenne. I love them tbh cos there different from everything else and I really do think they suit the car. Ive got some pictures knocking about somewhere if I find them I will post and if not I'll take some tomorrow after she's had a good clean.

I did run the standard s-line wheels for a while with spacers think 10mm ones did it and longer bolts.

Great Stuff! Glad it did. I would literally type in on Ebay... 'a4 b6 Led license plate lights'.

The top hit will give you new lights and compatible plastic housing with MUCH thicker foam for protection against water ingress.

As Tony Says, the screws really are made of cheese! I went over to my dad's Howdens joinery box, grabbed 2 self tapping screws which were around the same length as the Audi ones and screwed them in! Perfect fit and dont ****** corrode haha.

Car is on for the gearbox service, got a Ford Focus and it's ****** manual, also the ****** number plate keeps alarming, back to lamps

Ford? Yukkk! haha

What do you mean..are you talking about the LED's on the Audi keep giving you errors?

Yes they are on, but the bulb out error keeps on popping up.

You need resistors to prevent this as the B7 is very sensitive to leds even if they have in built resistors. I can't get a link at the moment to any but hopefully someone can....if not I'll do one when I can.

Dan if you are OK with a soldering iron for for the ones that are the same as the ones in the link DrStrange posted.....I have these and did it myself.

But if you aren't, either get someone else to fit them or fit a set of Kufatec ones that are plug and play. I'm sure @t8ups sells these.

Seems like a lot of bother for some one else to see. Might just bung some OEM lamps back in.

They are 18 x 8j et57 and I'm running them with 25mm pcd adapters that I had made up

So really your wheels now more like an et32,

wheel hunting is a nightmare with the bbk on now, theres to many factors to take into account. its hard when i want a certain style of wheel, I'll get some sorted soon, i will succeed lol

Yeah spot on I went with the high offset wheels so I could get a decent size adapter on and then it kind of took the risk away from will it fit. If that makes sense. Plus I got the wheels for a steal
