I took the ashtray out and replaced it with the storage tray today... really happy with it.

I ran a new loom from the ashtray light to a little 12v led strip under the climate control to provide a bit of light.

Is it too bright? Any critique appreciated.

If it glares you when driving i'd say yes, but only you can know if it is or not.
Neat idea though

Looks great in my opinion. do you have part no for ashtray delete? and maybe led strip?

It's not too bad to be honest, looks brighter in the photo. Also can be dimmed with the dash lights. Thinking I could run footwell lights from the same supply!

The tray is 8P0863301A 4PK £13inc vat
The led strip I had kicking around but it's about £1 from maplins!... and self adhesive!!!!

If you don't need the ashtray do the swop, it's a massive space gain!.

Yeah i don't need the ashtray but was thinking to try and use light power supply for wireless phone charging. don't know if it would work.

Not sure. Its 12v but don't know its current handling. Fairly safe to say it can power a couple of LED strips, not sure if it could do a phone charger, they draw a relatively large amount of current no?.

Im guessing you would be better off running power from the cig lighter for that purpose, run it under centre console to the armrest and have the charger in there maybe?

I don't know. it was just an idea.

Just to add to that, you don't need to take the climate control out. If you have a long enough socket extension you can get to the two bolts holding on the two triangles.

Just got around to fitting mine. Took a while to find the right Torx driver size to remove the triangles, it's a T30. All the other screws and the ones right at the front and under the CC unit are 8mm socket, having a 1/4" socket set helps with removing them as you need the right length extension bar.
Haven't done the light though, may do it in the future.
