I'm a bit of a telly buff (proper stuff) and wanted to find out what everyone rates as their favourite "box sets" as it were and throw my top shows out there.

1) The Sopranos - simply the best series of all time IMO. The late, great James Gandolfini at his best.
2) Sons of Anarchy - The Sopranos meets "Easy Rider" and an absolutely superb story. Season 6 finale broke me!
3) True Detective (Season 1) - dark, twisted, thrilling and a great cast. Season 2 is a bit crap and should be called "Truly Defective"!
4) The Walking Dead/Fear The Walking Dead - Classic Zombie apocalypse horror, told from two very different angles.
5) The Wire - gritty detective drama that runs two or three parallel stories every season, all coming together briliantly. Still (belatedly) getting through this one!

I quite liked Breaking Bad but to me it wasn't the incredible event everyone seems to think it is - was much more enjoyable before the operation went large I felt. I've just watched "11.22.63" which was fantastic and well worth a watch, and I've now started "The Night Of" which after one episode has me hooked! "Life on Mars" (UK) also had me watching one episode after another for weeks.

So that's mine, hopefully I've enlightened some fellow ASNers - anyone got anything for me?
By the way, I know I haven't mentioned Game Of Thrones - I'm very late to that party and not sure I'll like it that much beyond the shagging!

I too am a telly buff but have to be really as I suffer from Insomnia, so getting through box sets is pretty easy for me.

The first two I can't decide which I prefer the most

1: Sons of Anarchy - Didn't watch it until it finished but got hooked so badly that watched all 7 seasons in 9 days.

2: The Walking Dead - Not really into Horror/Zombies but absolutely love this and on edge already to see how the Negan story pans out.

3: Banshee - This was an awesome 4 series and gutted the writers wanted to go out on a high as it had so much more to give.

3: Game of thrones - like you I am still unsure of the whole thing but have watched it all so won't stop now, but have arguments at work when we get into the what is better TWD or GoT.

4: The 100

The rest

Blindspot
Leftovers - just weird
True Detective - watched series 1 but not bothered with 2
Ballers - really enjoying this watched season 1 in a night.
Last Ship
Zoo
The Tunnel
Arrow
Flash
Agents of shield
Under the dome

I've definitely got some catching up to do there!
If you haven't watched The Sopranos it's a must. Fear the Walking Dead is also highly recommended.
My wife is well into Blindspot and Banshee and keeps telling me to get involved!

As above

Ballers- now on season 2
NCIS- my favourite
Mr Robot- got to episode 9 and I'm losing interest.

Never got into SOA or GOT

As with yourself, never got Breaking Bad.

Murder in the First is very good. Two seasons done waiting on third.

To name a few that I have watched, still watching

Game of Thrones
The 100
Supernatural
The Last Ship
The Strain
Falling Skies
24
Zoo
The Walking Dead
Fear the Walking Dead
Vikings
The Blacklist

Never got into Breaking Bad, although I do still have it so I may go back and see if it grabs me

Ah how could I forget The Strain?!
Timed right too, definitely an autumnal/winter series.

If you have Amazon Prime "Man in the high castle" is very good.

Narcos is well worth a watch. Haven't caught up with series 2 yet but I am to soon.
SOA is outstanding. I was hooked from the very start on that.

I'll throw in two that haven't been mentioned.

Netflix's Daredevil is fantastic.
Currently watching 'Peaky Blinders' which is very good as well.

I'm a big Sopranos fan, if you like that, try Ran Donovan

I am surprised no-one has mentioned Stranger Things, which is a Netflix original series.

It's excellent, with a compelling story, excellent character development and some very, very good acting, and this comes from someone for whom the wire is the bar by which all other TV series are judged (and found wanting (its not as good as the wire, then then again nothing is))

Stranger things has the added advantage of being set in the 80's, which gave me one or two nostalgiagasms (i know that sounded wrong).
think E.T crossed with the Goonies with a side garnish of x-files, slow roasted on some silent hill.

Anyone watch The Flash or Arrow? Both are really good.

Banshee is awesome, I'm on series 1 episode 7 so still got loads left to watch.

Game of Thrones is my favourite.

I need to watch Breaking bad and the Walking dead

I used to watch arrow, but lost interest after the 2nd season - once the secret was common knowledge it lost something

One of my friends is hooked on this - gonna have to have a look!
Although I will say one thing - The Sopranos ****** all over The Wire (which I also love)!

Yep, I should have known someone would say that :) I'll adjust my statement to "the wire is the TV series by which all others are judged, apart from the Soprano's which is the TV series by which the wire is judged"

I did love the Soprano's, you know I haven't watched it since 2007 (I think) i am going to dig it out again.

Anyway, watch Stranger things because it's awesome.

+1 on stranger things, plus most of the above. I ain't got into GOT yet, but that's being saved for a holiday - ie I'll send the wife + kids away for a week and do it in one go!!

However, whilst not quite box set lore yet (as its animated) you've got to watch "Archer" on Netflix - think A perverted alcoholic James Bond, with serious Mummy issues, and a penchant for kenny loggins......

It's awesome.

You've got to give 'Dexter', 'Power', 'prison break', 'homeland', 'white collar' a watch, all on Netflix
I was hooked to SOA so good.
Let us know what you think of them

No haven't seen that, I take it that's good then?
Also Luther and line of duty they are both good.
I watch both of those but got to the Luther party late...
"Who's there?"
"Police"
"What Police?"
"THE Police".
Brilliant.

And yes get on The Sopranos immediately! Only 18years late!

I had forgotten about Homeland, still got Season 4 to watch

Luther is good too as is Sherlock

To echo what so many on here have said, The Sopranos is possibly the all-time high water mark in television history. Someone earlier mentioned Ray Donovan. I'm watching that too, and still enjoying it, but I'm also in the middle of a complete review of the Sopranos, start to finish., When you watch them alongside each other, Ray Donovan suddenly becomes very ordinary. I'm surprised there hasn't been a shout out for Boardwalk Empire.

On a lighter, more mainstream note, I enjoy Blue Bloods; in particular the comic turn between the Commissioner Tom Selleck and his sidekick deputy. I'm also a sucker for Rizzoli and Isles. Twenty five years on from her role in Goodfellas, and a decade on from playing Dr Melfi in the Sopranos, Lorraine Bracco is still one seriously sexy lady.

I love you! Haha. You've just summed the whole thing up. The Sopranos simply rule modern television.

Just a few that I didn't see posted above....

Vinyl
heroes
Fargo
I enjoyed FlashForward but only one series was made.
It was only half a series! Lost interest in Heroes and missed season two of Fargo but loved the first one.

Have watched most of what's been mention already but thought I would add The West Wing, Entourage and Gomorrah all worth watching.

Love GoT and Stranger Things, also watched 'Preacher' was oddball but good. Also enjoyed the following:

Vikings
Narcos
Marvel's Jessica Jones

Anyone watching the series - the Exorcist ?

I've got Gomorrah saved I think!
Gomorrah was awesome. Watched the first series when it was first broadcast a couple of years back, then saw it on rerun immediately before the second series went out earlier this year.

There is just too much now to watch. Slowly got through most of what's above but more on my list before Arrow & Flash start up again:

Stranger things
Ashes to Ashes
The Wire
West world

Big fan of the film West World so I hope the TV doesn't ruin it

Some brilliant recommendations! So concentrating on things as yet unmentioned.

- Rick and Morty, is one of the funniest things I've seen.
- Preacher, shaping up to be a brilliant show.
- Hannibal, does the source material proud. Mads Mikkelsen in particular.
- Penny Dreadful. Serial occult/horror done perfectly, with a serious budget.

Me too, I feel exactly the same as you about that one. Love the film - some of what makes it so creepy is the 70s futuristic style.

Sack Ashes to Ashes and go to Life on Mars.

I did just finish 'life on mars' and enjoyed it. The spin off no good then?
