hi guys,

sure this gets done very often, and ive read and seen many comments on boards and forums.
looking for some more opinions if anyone would like to offer.

currently coming to the end of my set of tires, there only budget tires but they were brand new when i bought the car 18months ago so thought id use them!

looking for something premium and the usual two seem to always be complemented the most (goodyear eagle F1 & michelin supersport)

are these really the best tires around? also are they the best for an 8p? or do people have genuine experiance with them on more than one car model?

also anyone found anything of a cheaper price bracket with same results?

i have an 11 plate 8p running revo stage 2 (no +) just with intake and miltek exhaust (DSG)

i dont do track days and dont really kill her while im driving, i just like the idea of a boss set of boots under her!

she understeers fairly easily with current budgets on.

all comments are appreciated. thought im really looking for an opinion from someone that has used many brands on an 8p and has a good experiance of what works!

cheers guys!!!

Yes they are the best around. Yes they are the best for the 8P.

You can't get "a boss set of boots under her" that are also cheap. You get what you pay for with tyres.

she understeers fairly easily with current budgets on.

As does every other 8P. The chassis is one that will naturally understeer. Speak to Damian @DPM regarding rear anti-roll bar and anti-lift kit. These will help reduce the understeer.

Please use the search facility, this topic has been covered loads.

Well, I've just had two Barum Bravuris HM3's fitted on the front and so far they are superb tyres.

Was surfing last week for decent tyres at a decent price and Nationwide Autocentres had these on a buy 1 get 1 free deal. I did a bit of research (basically read reviews) and can't find anything bad about them. Barum are owned by Continental, so I was kind of reassured that they had to be at least decent-ish. I refuse to be swept along on the myth that you have to spend a fortune on good decent tyres, we drive mass produced road going cars, not formula one machines and as long as you drive sensible-ish it's all much of a muchness for me.

Both fitted and balanced for £112.00 all in.

So far very impressed, and that's before they've even worn in.

Everyone will have different opinions of different tyres.. I preferred my Bridgestone Potenza RE050s over my Eagle F1's so a matter of opinion really

Can't fault the Nankang NS2R Semi-Slicks, awesome bits of rubber :)

Hankook evo2 v12 i use, had a few sets of these v12's and can't fault them in any conditions

Have they got a rim protector ?

Awesome bits of rubber! Nankang really stepped their game up with them

What are they like in the wet? I'm tempted to get them but still leaning towards the NS2 because I've had them before and really like them.

They are fine for daily driving in the wet, never really drove them hard in the wet but as just daily driving I've had zero problems :) In the dry, on a track and dragstrip they're in the same league as Advan's and R888's IMO

I might give the new R888R tyres a go this year.

They look the danglies! what's their price range for them? circa £200 per tyre? Let me know how you get on with them if you go for them Alex! I'm also tempted to splash out on them for trackdays etc

Isn't Nankang a budget brand?

Yes, they do budget tyres.. but their NS2R's are £110 per tyre and is a legal-trackday tyre

The NS2's are just a normal road-going tyre so you have to make sure you don't get mixed up between the 2 lol

Haha it's an easy mistake to make mate.. I done the same thing until I found out about the NS2R's lol It's almost like Nankang are tired of being "that budget brand" lol, trying to push into the Premium Brand tyres by the looks of it lately.

I'm enjoying the Goodyear effecientgrip performance I've just fitted, pushed them pretty hard and all seems well. Excellent in the wet can't fault them, if you really push them on corners and roundabouts you can feel the back end skip a bit but soon grips, I like that any how.

And as I've had verdestein, F1's and effecient grips I'd go for either of the goodyears really nowt to choose

You'd go for Eagle F1 Assy 2 over the Vred Sessanta or Vorti?

Reason I ask is I need two new rear tyres and I'm stuck in this dilemma myself lol

try www.mytyres.co.uk - may seem more expensive than camskill but saved me a bit of cash when you can purchase them with a deal to get fitted already. (so long as you have a garage near you which works with mytyres)

thread jack!!!! I'm in need of some new rubber! so are semi slicks worth it? i mean the compromise over wet weather to dry weather? obviously compounds and price are the two big factors. whats peoples thoughts????

I put Avon ZZ5's on mine at 22k, now on 48k and still a few months/thousand miles left on them.

I think for dry use in warm weather yes.

Toyo R888s perform far better than even Michelin SS tyres in those conditions but you need care when temps are very cool or in seriously wet weather.

The new R888R is on my list but not on my car yet.

So yes, semi slicks are great but need to be treated with respect if conditions aren't ideal.

All track day tyres such as Nankang NS2, Toyo 888, Advan AO48 are absolutely the best for dry summer roads. One big disadvantage is they will have a short life when used enthusiastically, the tread depth when new is not much, 5mm is the ballpark compared to about 8mm on your standard road tyres. They will cope with wet roads up the point where there is standing water, then you are aquaplaning :sob: into the nearest ditch.
If you have the money then a second set of wheels/tyres with winter tyres will cover you for the whole year.

@Soot1

Exactly what I do.

PSSs for winter and semis for summer.

Love my Avon ZZ5 on a second set and as above over 20k on a front pair, great in the wet too. £75 a corner from f1autocenters aint too shabby and they have rim protectors. There very underrated, Aston martin fit them to there cars.

Nankang NS2R's:

Came with 6.5mm tread - 180 Hard Compound - £77 per tyre - 225/45/18

After 2000 road miles & 120 hard track miles:

The fronts have lost 1.3mm
The rears have lost 0.9mm

I can only compare these directly to my previous tyres, Michelin PS3's:

Nankang are:
Cheaper
Hugely better in the dry
Equal to or marginally better in the wet

Downsides are they only come with 6.5mm tread & they are noticeably louder that the Michelin PS3's.

I can't ever see these Nankang being equal or better to MPS3 in the wet and that's just by looking at the tread design lol .

Spank MPS3 in the dry , definitely .

I purchased the new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's last month, and they have literally transformed the car. Granted I was never happy with my previous tyres Goodyear efficient grip (great in wet, terrible in dry). These however are great in all weather and really makes the car feel sure footed. Got mine all in for 4 new tyres £370 fitted balanced and tracked.
