Hey all

Ordering a new S3 a week Friday at Southampton Audi and I have decided on colour (Ibis White), super sports seats, upgraded bi-xexon headlights, black pack and to have a dsg gearbox but not sure what else is worth selecting?

Other thing is did anybody by the life shine? Tempted to leave it but not sure

Any help would be most welcome

the only dealership option that is even remotely worth having is the alloy/tyre cover. All the other stuff is way overpriced and can be found cheaper elsewhere.

Extras you may want to consider in addition to those mentioned are the comfort pack with parking system plus, interior lighting package, lumbar support, and if you're a keen music listener, definitely upgrade the speakers.

Finally, Mono.Pur. If I had to describe Mono.Pur in two words those words would be LIFE CHANGING.

i would leave the lifeshine, complete rip off in my opinion. Audi offered me it for £500! be lucky if they spend 2 hours applying it and be surprised if its done correctly. I contacted a local detailer and agreed to do a full detail protection for £200 with his products or buy the lifeshine kit and he will apply it, think its like £40 for the kit.

i would also recommend the comfort pack as well, auto lights, dimming mirror, parking sensors and cruise controll. well worth the money.

If you are going for the s-tronic (DSG) gearbox the Adaptive Cruise Control (£575 or £350 with the Comfort Pack) works well with that gearbox and is well worth considering. I have s-tronic and ACC and they work very well together in stop-start traffic. I use it whenever I join a queue of traffic and the ACC moves the car forward as the traffic moves. If the period of stop has been more than 3 mins then you just need to tap the accelerator pedal or pull up the ACC lever. If it's less than 3 mins the car will move forward without you doing anything. I normally drive in manual mode but I always move in to D mode when I engage the ACC. It is also great for going through road works with speed cameras as you can set it to the limit and it will maintain that speed, but unlike normal cruise control, if the car in front is going a bit less than the limit, the ACC will just keep a given distance behind it and keep the same speed. Not a cheap option but I find it very useful and it's certainly not something that can be retrofitted.

Other items like the Interior lighting package (£170) adds a touch of interest to the interior and this can be purchased on it's own or part of the Comfort Package (£605) which also includes the auto-dimming rear view mirror, light and rain sensors and rear parking sensors. Again all very useful items to have and quite a few members have regretted not specifying them on their order. It depends on how much extra you want to spent!!

Options that should be standard :-

Interior Light Pack
Comfort Pack with park +
Electronic Lumbar support (if not having SS seats)
Folding Mirrors

Would not be without any of the above.

My favourite options :-

B&O
Panoramic roof
Tech pack high
Mono Pur

Options I could live without but nice to have :-

LED headlamps
S-Tronic
Mag ride
Reversing camera
High beam assist
Hold assist

Think I will do:

DSG
Upgraded bi-xexon headlights
Supersport Seats
Upgraded sound system
Comfort pack
Electric mirrors
Sat-Nav ( although I'm told that can be added at a later date? )

SD Nav can be added later but the tech pack has a much much much (x100) better screen! After seeing it for the first time the other week on another forum members car I hate looking at mine!

Did someone say "Life changing". :eyes:

Tyre cover differently worth it but watch out for the alloy cover. My dealership sold it to me and I went back for a refund after reading the paperwork at home and seeing that it did not cover the diamond cut wheels they sold me.

Having had my S3 for a while now:

DSG,
TechPack High
B&O (or the ***)
SSS
Folding Mirrors - the dimable option is debatable as it only dims the passenger side, because you know curbs don't exist on the driver side...

I've got ACC and its brilliant, but I don't use it very often. If you get stuck in traffic a lot that is slow moving, well worth it, not so much fun on the motor way though... had many people slot into the gap in front of me and the ACC has slowed down to create the gap again which is fine... except this has happened when i've had people slot in front and behind me (crap junction on the M5) and the ACC slowing down the way it does isn't ideal.

Things not to get:
Hill Hold Assist - can't speak for manuals, but with the DSG you get Hold Assist the HHA option for £90 is not needed, its not exactly hard to pull the hand brake switch and it'll dis-engage when you pull away automatically.
Mono.Pur - Ok not seen an Audi without it so it maybe worth its cost

I think the light pack is a nice cheap option which adds a touch of class.
I have gone for the sd sat nav ,but still sure about it as I don't have any sat nav now and never felt any problem using maps on my mobile.
Comfort pack seems good to me. Have gone for ACC upgrade as found normal cruise fairly useless in the crowded SE of England . Like the idea of the combo with the s tronic.
Have gone for *** , as had to draw the line somewhere. I wanted to keep £400 back for pro new car detail...

I didn't go with ACC because I hardly ever use Cruise Control and didn't want the lower grille horizontal vane to be disturbed but something that is not very well documented is that standard cruise control doesn't slow you down ie your speed can increase when going down hill.

If CC is important to you then prob worth going the whole hog with ACC especially when in combo with S-Tronic.

Also worth searching for SD nav vs high mmi nav as you get so much more. Larger hi res 7in screen, touch pad handwriting recognition, 5 map updates, high capacity SD card compatibility etc

I would say that "standard cruise control" on any car only operates the gas, not the brakes. So it could speed up on a steep enough downhill run. It's never bothered me. But I would agree that ACC is the way to go. I didn't and I regret it every day!

Can't believe I've caused you to hate your car Alix.....
I should have put/kept the screen down so you wouldn't have anything to covet.

Sorry this is incorrect. Standard cruise control will maintain a set speed up or down hill in other words it will use the brakes to slow the car down if needed. If yours operates differently it is faulty and I would advise getting it looked at

My S3 with standard CC does not brake to maintain a constant speed - others cars I've owned have done so.

Well I'll try mine sometime then. I must say that I have not had the opportunity to actually try this - don't use the cruise very often.
