When I ordered my S3 I asked about a service plan, to which the reply was "For the miles you do it's not worth it, you'll only need 1 service at the 2 year mark costing about £300". I've just looked on the Audi website and it says for under 10,000 pa an interim service is required after 12 months!!! So why say I don't need a service pack @ £16 per month?

I thought all Audi petrol engine servicing is every 24 mths or 18k mls whichever comes first according to the OBC as it is set to Variable Service intervals at the factory.

From the brochure:

If you drive under 10,000 miles per annum your vehicle will be placed on a Fixed inspection service schedule. If your mileage tends to exceed 10,000 miles per annum it will be placed on the Flexible service schedule.

Then looking down the page:

Fixed Inspection Service Schedule
Vehicle usage:
Mileage
Less than 10,000 miles per annum Mainly city/town centre driving. Short journeys.
Service Intervals:
Oil-change Service Fixed to every 9,000† miles/1 year
Inspection Service Fixed to every 19,000† miles/2 years

†As indicated by the service interval display. Mileages are approximate as the Service Indicator system uses kilometres as its distance measurement.

A service pack 24 months x £16 is £384, an oil/interim service and then a two year service comes to: Interim Service £159 Major Service £309 = £468

I know it's only £84 difference, but when they try to sell you £12 polish for £500 I thought that they'd be ramming the service pack down your throat!!!

They didn't offer me a service plan on the S3, said it wasn't an option.

The interim is pretty much an oil change really, costly!

I would ask them to quote in writing for an oil and filter change only and have it set to fixed intervals, then make sure you dont get charged for the long life oil!

Just looked again, £17 for the S3

Ha, I started a thread about the crazy service plan costs a couple of weeks ago, and I see the prices are just as weird in the new brochure. Now it seems it costs less to service an A3 sportback vs A3 hatch, but costs more to service a S3 sportback vs S3 hatch. They just make it up!

Unless you include tyres which are much better value on the S3 sportback (vs S3 hatch), go figure :)

Why is it so hard to find information about service plan costs on Audi's website?

I've had my A3 Sportback just under 2 weeks now and in the post today I got letter from the Stealer asking me to get in touch about a service plan.

I'm looking for some advice though please. My car is 2.0 TDI and I do about 14,000 miles per year.
What plan do I need to be on?
Do I need service only OR service & maintenance? I've got a 5 yr warranty so surely faulty parts are covered?
How much will (or SHOULD) it cost me?
Am I better paying as and when necessary?

Sorry for all the questions but never done one of these before. Cheers.

According to the latest Pricing and Specification Guide for the A3/S3 Audi no longer do a Service Plan as such. They do something called Audi Complete with Service only, Service and Maintenance, or Service, Maintenance and Tyres. Download a copy from the Audi website (http://www.audi.co.uk/about-audi/contact-us/brochures.html) and it will give you full details.

You will need to download the Pricing and Specification Guide for the A3/S3 from the website as a PDF file. It is then on Page 80.

I was lucky and got the service pack for £399 for 3 years servicing. Although I only do 6k-7k per year I've always serviced it yearly.
Same here I got the 3 year service plan thrown in with my car but I've asked the garage if I need my 1st service now and they said no need until the car says so. Is this right that they don't need servicing every year?

As far as I understand from the details with my wife's Audi A1, if the car is on the normal rather than the extended service interval a service is due at 10,000 miles or 2 years which ever comes first. She has done about 15,000 miles in three years so far and the car was services at 2 years old.

I think things have changed as I've always serviced my car yearly although not had a new car before.

Will just go off the service indicator on the MMI, ideally like to have it done yearly and with playing for the plan I think that will be the case.

Ahh!! Found it now - thanks Dave.

So, according to the brochure, It's (from) £16/month for Service Only OR (from) £20/month for Service and Maintenance.

Is it worth doing the Service AND Maintenance or not?

The confusion with the service plans is because they don't give all the facts. If you buy a car without a plan, the car is set to Flexible servicing, so upto to 18,000miles or 2 years. However, if you have a service plan as part of your finance or you pay for it separate, the car will be set to Fixed servicing so 10,000 miles or a year....

If you buy a new car, the service plan surely doesn't require the 'maintenance' side as it's covered by warranty. Or am I missing something?

Warranty covers the car for things that fail on the vehicle that are not deemed wear and tear. The service plans cover the servicing of the car. A maintainence pack is normally link to a lease vehicle which can cover all servicing including tyres.

I was never offered any sort of service plan when I ordered the car. It was never mentioned on collection day either. So, am I now to assume that I am (by default) now on Flexible Servicing? I do 14,000 miles/year so perhaps this is the best for me anyway?

Still undecided on Servicing or Servicing & Maintenance though....

Could have been spinning a line, but after I enquired about Audi Complete my dealer suggested this was only available if you ordered at the same time as the car (like the factory extended warranty). So ended up taking a dealer service plan instead. They might have been making it up, but couldn't be bothered to argue.

I was told the same so ordered at the time

Just wish they had told me when I ordered! The dealer plan is about the same cost but I don't get the 'maintenance' bit that I would have taken with Audi Complete. So wear and tear / fluids / bulbs etc. I'll have to pay for.

I know to ask for it earlier next time!

Just to bump this thread guys and looking through the brochure I noticed this.

I do over 20k per annum so would look at the service pack including tyres, looks too good to be true though is there some hidden thing here? Works out about £456 per year and my last set of tyres was more than that!

I had the service and maintenance option. It's worked out pretty well so far. I had a fault with the coolant system and they just said they'd replace it when I took it in. Also they replaced the battery in the key, because is wasn't working 100%. When you go for servicing apparently brake pads/discs are covered with the package?

Yup all brake related parts are covered. However one thing to not that the brochure prices are marked with a * as that's the lowest they will be. The only way to know the true price is to get a quote. I have SMT for two years at 21-23 a month (I forget the exact price) which should work out very well. 1interim and 1 major service plus a set of tyres. It didn't make sense to do the 3 years as it was more cost effective in the 3rd year to pay for the bits and bobs myself. Though I very much copied another persons idea.

Yes your right i got the ACTUAL quote for the service plan on my S3.... £119 per month... pass.

I got the 3 year service plan thrown in at purchase. In for my first service atm, guy doing the service popped out and said 'should I health check the car as its heavily modified'... Yes

I was offered a 3 year service plan worth £17 per month. Because I don't do a lot of mileage, they basically reduced my final invoice by £612 and said it was up to me whether I took it out.......probably not worth it due to me doing low mileage, so I haven't bothered.
