apple lightning Audi cable.

..this is now the single most important quest in my life. Challinor tell them to get plenty stock in. 'Yellow', my precious.

Great, will email my dealer to get one with my car. Also want the aux and usb, but usually you only get 1 don't you.

I'm looking at a spare one of these right now. Never been used, genuine Audi and I'll post it to you FOC if you PM me your address.
Steve

Probably not haha,

I intend to use WiFi to be fair and a USB HDD for video but its useful none the less.

Yeah I'll never actually use video, but I want the option if it exists! #1stworldproblems and all that

USB would be useful though so would also like to know if they only usually give out one cable?

When I was given my 'one' cable it was actually a pack of two. One iPhone and one USB.

Has anyone tried the yellow cable with Spotify or soundcloud? It's driving me insane, my green collar is useless.

So can someone please explain what is the difference between the green collar cable and the new yellow one. What extra/different features does it have?

Before I go and get an yellow cable has anyone used it with Spotify?

Just been to my local Audi garage and purchased the MMI lead for the I-Phone 5, it's got a yellow collar, part number 4FO O51 51O AL. It shows album art work and plays video.

So what iPhone and what software version do you have?

Tried 2 x iPhone 6 and 6 plus on iOS 8.0.2 and no video with yellow cable.

Yes, Challinor (and me too) has an iPhone.
From Apple's tech specs...

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 60 frames per second, High Profile level 4.2 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640x480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280x720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

There are other apps available which will play different formats, but I would imagine intended MMI support for Apple devices might be limited to the above.

Puzzling. Both @The Challinor and myself could not get either of our phones working with video and the yellow cable.
Maybe his MMI is broke ;)

I've got iTunes video, mp4 video i've shot and loads from the in built iPhone camera and none of it displays. I was parked with the handbrake on.

Stuff it, just put some tunes on and drive ;)

If you want video stop off at the cinema.

What version of iOS are you running? I cannot get any music to play now and is totally useless with the green cable, iphone 5 and iOS 8.1. This is driving me mad!!

Great, thanks for your reply. I'll be ordering one in the morning!!

Just tried the yellow cable. Album art now shows (whoop) but music still won't play (boo). Am I missing something. Are there any settings that I should be changing in the iPhone?

Could not see from your sig whether you have tech pack or non-tech pack.

Have not tried yellow cable yet but would expect audio to play even if no artwork (eg pic too big or file size too large). It is known than green collar cable = no a artwork on non-tech pack but you should still get audio.

Challinor:
Try this thread for video though opinion was mixed

I've got the standard system. Something that's strange is that it started playing on my way home. Mmmmm wouldn't play while at Audi. They are going to conduct a full tech report and feed it back to Audi Germany.

Hmmm still inconclusive

I had a play with this today and some interesting results:

Car: Non-tech pack with Audi Sound System
Same video file for all tests

  • iPhone 3GS iOS 6.1.6 Red collar cable - Navigate to video on MMI and video plays fine.
  • iPhone 5S iOS 8.1 Red collar AMI cable plus genuine Apple Lightning to 30 pin adapter - Navigate to video on MMI and folder shows "No files in readable format" (or something similar). Setting the video to play on iPhone results in audio only through MMI (no video).
  • iPhone 5S iOS 8.1 Green collar Lightning AMI cable - Navigate to video on MMI and folder shows "No files in readable format" (or something similar). Setting the video to play on iPhone results in audio only through MMI (no video).

So, car is capable of it, but is this a Lightning issue or iOS issue?

Don't have a yellow collar cable so can't try that.

John.

I found out A3's made July 2014 onwards should need a yellow cable.
