Buying 2.0 TFSI, FSH, asked but no haldex service history. is this a no go?

Hi im looking to purchase the said A3, 120k miles, 2 previous owners, says FSH, rang the guy up today (hes selling for his sister) and asked if the haldex had been serviced etc, and he couldn't find anywhere to say that it had.

I now have 3 questions.

1. the haldex would be under a different name or anything like that, or written in a particular way that he didn't recognise?
2. If it has no haldex history, should i be looking at a different car? (presuming the quattro DOES work)
3. When i go to view it, how would i know if the quattro is actually working?

Thanks guys, im hoping to finally join the forum with my own audi, and want to make sure i get something good!

If you get the registation number audi can tell you if and when the haldex has been serviced! :)

I wouldnt buy one that hasn't been serviced. Its recommended every 40k and isn't expensive so should have had it done at least twice coming up to third time.
 
'audi' can tell me, who do i ring for this? any audi garage or HQ ?

If you ring an audi dealer and tell them your looking to buy the vehicle they should help you out.
 
Try and get hold of someone who's got VCDS, that way can scan for probs incl Haldex unit.
Haldex oil change i not part of normal service. Normally Audi will ask if it requires to be done.
I'd check what the guy means by full service history. Docs receipts etc. If you are not happy.. walk away....
 
Agree with the above! Big problems if not serviced! Where you based?
 
ok, i just found the local dealer but the service dept closed at half 5! so will have to ring tomorrow, thanks for that.

Also in the the sale, the guy said hes putting the original wheels on, which are 17's, and wants an extra £200 for the optional ones which are 18 inch (i have 2 eagle f1's this size in te garage). Do you think te 18's are worth the extra 200? they are in pretty good condition i believe.

I've 18" on my car. Ride harder and wheel more prone to buckling if hitting the infamous Lincshire pot hole/s!!!

imho sell the 18" tyres and save the £200 not buying the wheels, no real benefit having 18". Besides 17" are cheaper to buy.
My Mk5 GTI had 17"ers and it rode real good incl cornering.
I fact a tyre test was done comparing 17" v 18" shod car with same tyres. The 17" was about 2.5 sec faster round a closed circuit.

I rang up my local audi and they told me the service it last had with audi themselves but she said they couldnt tell if it had a haldex service if done by another dealer.

What do?

Just buy it and take it straight for a haldex service?

Well the guy didnt even know what the haldex was or that it needed servicing, he is sellig for his sister but can i persume that she doesnt know either?

It will be stamped in the book mate where it was serviced. You really need to speak to the audi dealer it was serviced at. It will be on their records. :)
 
In the service book there should be a tick box for Haldex oil (with an asterix saying "Quattro only" I think) under each entry. At the front it will say how often it should be done (again with an asterix).

This guy needs to look at all the entries in the book and see if it has been ticked off for Haldex oil change at all.

There's no immediate way of telling if the Haldex is working okay, giving the car a test drive and pulling away hard from standstill is the only way. Wheelspin = 2WD.
 
right ok thankyou, iv asked the guy questions about it, and the with vague answers and no reply for last 4 hours, im going to leave this one i saw, i dont want to buy if i have any sort of bad feeling about it, seen another at a what looks like an AUDI only or VAG car garage and already feels like a better idea.
