Just joined to get some info on an A4 Avant 1.8T 190 6 speed.

Are they group 15 or 17? Some places I've seen say 15 others 17.

The MPG figures seem to vary. Can I get some real world experiences of what MPG this engine will do? I'm going petrol as I'm going to be doing about 15K a year and keeping the car for 3 years so I don't think I need a diesel??

My mother had a B6 A4 TDI and now as a B7 A4 TDI so kind of know what they feel like but would prefer manual petrol (hers are diesel auto)

Are there any usual problems and repairs for this type of A4?

I'm not fussed on leather, half leather is fine. I would also prefer the Sat Nav like my mothers M7 although the post code thing is just daft. How easy is it to retro-fit these if I get one without? Or is it too much trouble?

Thanks and apologies for the questions.

I believe they are group 15 bud going by what I'm paying.

Mpg wise we are regularly achieving high 30's for mixed driving, on my trip down to
Dover recently I was achieving around 40mpg but that's sat in 6th at around 70-75.

Only owned the car a few months and absolutely love it, only problem I've had is the MAF that needed replacing.

From what I gather the model you are after is exact to mine and as far as I know it's the only genuine S-Line b6, 1.8t 190 Quattro. Mime has half leather which is my favourite combo personally but I have seen one with full leather.

Sorry I can't give you any more help but it's still pretty new to me

Thank you for the reply.

Another thing I forgot to ask is are some FWD and others 4WD?

In day to day driving does it really matter? I assume that is some are and some aren't 4WD the 4WD will use more fuel?

I'm coming from a 4.0L Jeep Cherokee so just about anything is better on fuel :)

1.8T 190's are available in both fwd and quattro.

Quattro will typically cost you 3-5mpg.

It's a Torsen diff, permanent 4wd. It's down to extra weight and drag predominantly.

Hmmm, not entirely convinced that I'll particularly need to have a Quattro. I guess its another thing that might go pop at some point?

One thing I have noticed and thats the stereo on these. The Sat Nav seems quite rare on B6 models - my mother has a B7 with the Sat Nav which is cool apart from the silly post code issue. What I have noticed though is some have like a small head unit and others have a slightly larger head unit and the climate controls are moved further down - what is this? Also is the Bose system worth holding out for? I've read with other makes although they say its got some fancy named speakers they are still a bit rubbish.

I've seen one I particularly like but its slightly higher miles than I'd like and its at a dealer and I don't really like buying from dealers. Its a blue quattro with 3 previous and on 86K at £5995.

Are we allowed to post links to adverts? Wouldn't mind an opinion on face value of the pics (I appreciate pics can hide a multitude of sins!)

Mine with the remap still returns hi 30's, on a run it will easy do 40-41 mpg at 70 mph. (fwd)

Is that with Quattro transmission? If the Quattro can pull an indicated high 30s on a steady run I'm more than happy.

No problem with a link to an advert.

I've not got Bose, opinion seems mixed. I certainly wouldn't turn down a perfect car which didn't have it.

RNSe is a fairly straightforward retrofit, requiring a double din cage. Some models have it anyway, depends on the head unit fitted.

Quattro drive is pretty bulletproof, I wouldn't worry about that.

Well this one is top of the list right now -emailed but its a dealer.

Audi A4 Avant 1.8 T 2004MY quattro S Line | eBay

Or this - emailed also. Water pump done recently.

2004 (54) Audi A4 1.8T 190 Avant S Line | eBay

And finally - history sounds great but not favourite colour and a bazillion miles away (although don't mind flying from Cardiff)

Audi : AUDI A4 S-LINE AVANT 190 EDITION FASH 1 YEAR MOT 6 MONTHS TAX

I'm favouring the first as its the colour I prefer and its a Quattro. Downside is that IMHO, buying from a dealer can be just as tricky as buying private.

Should the steering wheel have the s-line badge or not? Mine hasn't!
Nice to see the sort of prices they are still fetching, mines just ticked over 58k

Thats low. Its another negative about the first one. Its more miles than I'd like. My Jeep has only done 62K and thats 1999. Although to be fair you don't want to go too far in it without remortgaging :D

One of the reasons I bought it, body/paintwork was in brilliant condition as was the interior. Bought it on 53500 with FAudiSH (bar 2) I've recently had it serviced at Audi and within a couple of weeks of owning it I got the cambelt/waterpump done at Audi also.
If you had a White BMW 1 series or a mk5 Golf Gti we could talk deals as thats what my wife now wants :)

From memory no, but hopefully an S-Line geek can confirm as S-Line specs can be strange.

Mine has the S-Line badge and perforated steering wheel.

I don't think that last one (the silver one) is a genuine s-line, it was the limited edition with the 17" wheels, although it does have the correct interior. The door kick plates should have s-line on them, and i think also only 2004 04 and 54 plates, that one is a 53. Be aware of the tax bracket of the quattro 190, although it's 226 g/km emissions, at the moment it's in the lower bracket but for how long...........

Thats a good point. Hadn't thought about the tax.

Is it £260 for the year for the Quattro? Is the FWD cheaper tax?

With such high emissions for the Quattro I'm suprised to read such high MPG figures - high 30s on a run and such high emissions?

So it seems my Avant will soon be up for sale as my Mrs wants something smaller, in fairness I did twist her arm into having it as I love them. Looking at something like an A3, 1 Series or Mk5 Golf now it seems.

If you are selling, I might be interested. I would PM you but I can't seem to find the button.

I would be grateful if the MPG figures can be confirmed by others. So how many miles would you get from a tank on average?

I need a new thermostat put in, and I average about 25, normally see 22

Wow thats low. My Jeep on a run will make 25 and thats 4.0L automatic and the best part of 2 ton.

I really need mid 30s at least from the car. I'm not going the diesel route because my work commute is very short and might mess up a diesel.

I also get mid 20's in this cold weather in my 1.8T B7 commuting in stop start traffic (7miles). The MPG is probably down to the weight as the A4 isn't that light. But it is better on a run i find, (mid to high 30's).

I have the same sort of MPG on my 190 Quattro, 22ish commuting 25 on a very good day. If MPG is an issue then Quattro probably isn't the way to go.

I've just read that they are tax band L - over £400/yr road tax :faint:
Surely this can't be right ?
