Well after 14,000 miles i need to replace my Michelin Pilot Sport 3 XL's... all 4... they've been rotated already... All even wear too which is good :)

Bloke at tyre shop says thats good mileage? Really?

He's quoted me £620 for Michelin Pilot Sport 3 XL's again.

Is that good value?? know anywhere cheaper?

Mich=£620
Conti=£550
Toyo T1S=£530

I originally went there regarding my 5th puncture haha i'd have better luck in a mine field....
All fully fitted...

Cheers

Mike

what sizes? as above try camskill.co.uk or rotationuk.com

I usually only run Michelin PS2's but Conti SC5's are getting a very good write up, may try them when the stock of PS2's dries up.

Camskill all the way!

I have a full set of Continental Contact Sport 3 if you are interested, all 4 were brand new Dec 1st so all at min 7mm, covered 1,500 miles max - I'm in the Midlands (Solihull) this weekend. (£380).

I managed to find some brand new toyo t1 R's for £400 dead, from local tyre place. if anyone else needs that deal let me know. size 225/40 R18. standard S3 wheel size.

Personally i would go with the conti's if you want a premium tyre. £140 fitted per tyre isn't bad.

Otherwise Camskill offer good prices - Falken FK452's?

Never ceases to amaze me how many of us buy a premium car worth £30K+ and then fit Non premium rubber.
when I buy a car if the tyres aren't premium I won't buy the car until they are replaced.

Having said that Toyo are supposed to be ok so I guess a good price for all 4 corners, perhaps the OP can post an update on how they perform and how long they last.

I'm not a fan of T1-R's. Wet grip is poor and I only got 5K out of them on the front of my LCR.
I bought them for the back but there is so much movement in the side-wall they were setting my ESP
off if I even thought about going into a corner with any enthusiasm!
They were ok on the front of my 306 Rallye for the £ but got Exaltos the next time.

I had T1R's on my 306 S16 a while back and they were really good. I'm pleased to report they are very good. I can't fault them yet. they're much better in the corners that's for sure. no understeer when accelerating hard out of corners. just pure grip. michelins were terrible for understeer I found.

I'll report back when it rains....

You must work for Toyo because the opposite is true!
They are great if you want to horse about with loads of understeer, thats about it!

I paid a shade under £320 for 2x Contact Sport 3's last weekend. Fitted, balanced and all tracking and tolerances corrected. I needed them within the hour on a Saturday morning after a 2 inch screw decided to make my O/S front its new home. Uneven wear on the inside confirmed tracking was out, right down to the canvas in places. Even through Camskill I would have only saved £50 and would still have needed them fitted.

Hi,

It's difficult to know if 14,000 miles is good milage for your tyres as it depends on the way you drive, the road surfaces you mainly drive on, your vehicle etc...

If you want to know more, there's some Michelin Pilot Sport 3 ratings here : Test & review Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyre

As for the Continental tyres, it's difficult to give you more advise, which model did you mean in the first place?

Hope this helps you out a little more, let us know what you choose in the end.

I think tyre tests are very car dependent. Toyo's didn't work that well for me on my Lupo GTi, but when I was forced into getting some due to available stock for 8P2 they were fine. So fine that Audi now fit them to some TT's from factory!

Leon Cupra R with Pirelli P-Zero nearly had me in ditches so often I nearly lost confidence in my car. They work brilliantly on rear wheel drive cars. A change to Goodyears and it was a different car.

I would only fit really budget tyres if it was a case of the difference between being legal or not, but then I'd probably rather use public transport or a hire car to bide time.
