I did a non Audi option on a 2011 A4 Avant and have had no issues since when using a trailer once a for hauling stuff.

Aye I got the screws out - was a bit fiddly but all sorted.

All sorted - there are 4 torx head screws (2 behind warning triangle and 2 behind the rear light access flaps) then its just a case of pulling down on the trim to release the clips, taking care to remove the light socket from the trim, before completely removing. The number plate isn't screwed...

Noticed the main body of the retractable cargo cover isn't staying in place despite me installing it as per the manual - its almost as if it is either too short and doesn't sit into the slots correctly or the mechanism isnt catching properly. Has anyone experienced the same?

Cheers Chris. Any idea of part number? You reckon it could be worth a try getting a replacement from a scrappy? Out of interest was it only in prolonged sunlight as well? Only ask as my pal has an A5 saloon and his is acting up too!?

Just giving this thread a bump as the issue is still ongoing. Definitely happens more often after the back of the car has been in direct sunlight!?

Took the solenoid off and wd40 it but still having the same issue. After a search it coul be the micro switch for the opening mechanism - anyone any ideas how to access it?
