Thought I’d ask on here about servicing, my S3 comes up to 3 years old later this month and has had 2 interim services by the previous owner. Car has covered 30k miles and needs an oil change anyway, so thinking I’d be better off with a major service where they’d do the oil anyway.

Audi seem pretty clueless when I called basically just said hand it over and we’ll do whatever needs to be done but didn’t want to explain exactly what beforehand.

So my plan is:
MOT inc Brake Fluid and Major Service including Oil Change

Haldex Oil and Filter at an Indy as I’ve read on here that Audi don’t open this up normally?

STronic Oil Change, can this wait till 38/40k?

Does this approach seem sensible? Wish Audi just had it written down what needs doing and when it would be so much easier.

If your considering getting serviced at audi get a service plan before the end of tbe month as you get 20% off and can pay monthly intrest free if need be

I'm sure I paid 384 for the s3 that includes one major service and one minor

I was told to get the box serviced before 38k as it will help if you need goodwill futlrther down the line

The indy I use you give him the reg and miles and the computer tells him what is due to be done, I can't understand why Audi can't do the same as it's their system!!!

Yes as you say an Indy will clean the haldex filter, Audi don't they just change the oil! That's like having a shower and then putting dirty underwear back on :p

Your MMI should also say what's due and when with regards to oil or inspection.

Where in the country are you?

PS: Audi wanted £452 for my 2nd service & inspection, the Indy did it for £198 using genuine Audi parts and he even updated the record on the Audi system.

Sounds like a good deal, probably would go with it but doubt I’ll have the car for too much longer, it’ll be sold in the next 12 months I reckon.

Still cheaper than 1 major service if you pay upfront for it. Then you have the bonus of another free service if you keep the car

Yeah I’ve never been down the Indy route before but a few of my mates that own Audi’s do and they swear you get better service.

I’m over in Lincoln so quite fortunate to have an Audi Dealer and quite a few well known Indy Garages that specialise in Audi’s too, I’ll pop a few an email today and see what prices I get back, I’m sure they’ll be cheaper than the main dealer.

Service plans are transferable too so a great selling point too

What you suggest seems sensible. I've always used an independent, local Audi is great customer service but their main servicing is very generic. Get a much better service, quality (and price) at a local indy we've used for a few years. He specialises in VAG and performance cars.

1. How long do you plan on keeping the car?

2. Proposed plan good but add the Haldex even though yours is probably FL - risk is dealer won’t clean the gauze so get that confirmed in your booking call and record it. Since the announcement says ‘calls may be recorded for quality and training purposes’ there is no expectation of privacy so you are free to record it. Also ask for gauze check as part of AudiCam. Expect pushback as the service agent may say that’s not standard - hence recording booking call and they then have to choose who from their their own dealership they throw under the bus.

S-tronic: PFL 38k Max. FL is much higher mileage but if keeping the car for several years I’d ask for it to be done anyway.

As an aside - do you have pan roof? Most dealers don’t know the frequency of greasing - my dealer said no it’s fine but the MyAudi app said every 2 years. For me, that discussion is still pending.

Whilst not due, if you are keeping the car long term I’d suggest a diff oil change. It’s not due but seen some stories of diff failures due to oil going waxy so this is preventative.

Yes this adds to your bill significantly but since the dealers are inconsistent about what needs to be done yet from experience have been quick to wriggle out of warranty claims.
