Hi all,

Relatively stupid question, I'll admit. Now the S5 (and presumably A5) have no dipstick from what I can see so only way to check oil is via the MMI or MyAudi App. After about 4k miles driving my Oil level is about 5/8 full so looking to top it up.

However due to the absence of the dipstick I'm worried about overfilling without knowing how much to be putting in, is there any tips to doing it or is it a case of topping up a little, turning the ignition and checking oil level. Rinse and repeat?

Hello,
I have an Audi s5 and I recently topped up the engine oil, but I only did this when the low oil warning showed up for which it indicated I only needed to add 1.25 litres of Castrol oil. In my opinion if I was you, I’d wait for the low oil signal to show to fill it up, on which it still says you can carry on driving.
Kind regards.

Agree with post above - I think because it’s a digital readout and it’s not on max you feel like you need to do something about it to get it back up to max - who doesn’t like maxing things out?

Would you feel the same if it was ⅝ up a dipstick readout? I’m only saying this as I’ve recently suffered the same anxiety. Mine varies from ⅞ to ⅝ depending on various factors relating to the journey I’ve just been on - hot and long journey = ⅝, short and cooler = ⅞.

As the last thing you’d want is an explosion of oil over your engine bay I’d leave it until the warning light (which will probably be set with a huge safety margin) comes on and carry a small bottle in the boot!

Adam, I checked mine after reading your post the other day and it was about 7mm from the top. I've just been out to check it again and it's now showing 100% full.

Treat it like your fuel tank!!! When the light comes on telling you it's low then fill it up :)

When it tells you to put oil in it. Stick one litre in.

Thanks for the replies everyone it does make sense what you're saying. Suppose just with it being digital I was treating it differently when it isn't at all

To be fair my fuel never gets low enough for the light to come on
