First impressions are good, smooth, quiet ride. Not as crashy over the bumps compared to the S3. Seem-less change from petrol to electric, so much so that you would hardly notice it apart from the needle on the Rev counter dropping down to a ready position. Sit a lot higher on the road and has a ****** of a blind spot at the A post (see pic). Nice place to sit and seats are comfy and supportive with adjustable electric side bolsters, still trying to find the right position though. It’s got a bit of poke but not really pushed it yet. Space in the back is good, maybe a wee bit bigger than the S3, boot is a good bit bigger though. Missing the Apple CarPlay though, wasn’t able to spec it unfortunately. Can still Bluetooth Apple Music which I would normally play on shuffle, but you can’t skip tracks from the steering wheel only from a button on the radio!! Ambient light strips on the front and rear doors are a nice touch (orange or white only) hadn’t realised they were standard.
Only 100miles in so early days yet but with my sensible head on I can see the financial benefits, however my petrolhead is crying out for pops and bangs .

Very nice @BarryG79, quite liking the interior tbh. A friend has recently bought an X3 (Petrol) and like you've mentioned I quite like the ambient lighting inside, looks very cool.

Don't mind the interior of the BMWs, but I'm really not a fan of the exterior design.... EB is a good colour though!

Suppose you can't see what it looks like from the outside anyways!

Well folks it’s nearly time for my S3 to go back to the lease company

79d8ff7389f09062fccef4d9c89cebf6.jpg

The 2 year lease is up in December so for the last few months I’ve been searching for another deal. Unfortunately another S3 of similar basic would cost an extra £150pm, which I’m not prepared to pay. I also can’t really justify paying what I’m paying just now for a car to sit in the office car park 4 days a week and in the drive while using the wife’s car at the weekend. As much as I love the S3 money talks and so does the wife!
Tried to convince her that I really didn’t need a 4 door, 4/5 seat car either. But she was having none of that so the cheap Mx5 and Arbath 124 spider lease deals came and went along with the A4 BE ones too.

Then I stumbled across a fantastically priced cheap deal but with out the S3 street cred which should hopefully be delivered in December.

Now some may laugh and some may cry with laughter. But it’s only for 18 months, will save me £100pm in lease payments and also a saving in fuel TBC. So if there are some better Audi lease deals after that then it won’t be long till I’m back.

Plug in Hybrid, 224hp, Xdrive, pano roof and LED lights.

Don’t worry though I’ll still be hanging out on ASN as the electric and Active Tourer forums aren’t quite as busy

But maybe I’m a doctor that visits old people’s homes??

It’s cheap motoring for 18 months. Don’t think there will be much else out there that will match it for performance and economy so cheaply.

I personally believe a bit of a healthy **** take about inferior BMW and Audi products on an Audi blog is perfectly acceptable. The OP surely realises there are unlikely to be many BMW fans on here.

Happy Festive greetings... not wanting to use the C word for fear of offence.

How are you finding the range of the electric motor ?

My wife’s had a Golf GTE since August & it was around 32 miles range initially but in real world terms it’s waaaaay less than that !

Use lights, heater, air con, heater seats, wipers etc or any kind of modest acceleration & it zaps the battery big time. Even temperature affects battery life.

There’s no way I would want a fully electric car lol

The electric acceleration is quite cool though and the car is a company car and as such is incredibly tax efficient.

Love the Golf overall though it’s a great car & i would definitely consider a GTI or R for myself.

The Bimmer appears to have similar power & looks a great choice for similar (financial) reasons :icon thumright:

I looked at a GTE or A3 Electron for my mega miles 250a day. Totally pointless when I tried one. 20 miles on electric, 230 on fuel with a boring 150PS lump. I can now get 36mpg in the S3 on the same journey and way more fun. i am not anti electric at all but pointless for many unless doing very few miles. Just my 2p!! VW Music and Nav lets the Golf down I think but good cars.

What ... you think 36mpg is good for a 250 mile a day commute car

You can get 70mpg easy in hybrid mode with the Golf where the car auto switches from electric to petrol. You can easily get 500 miles out of a tank on a long journey.

It cracks 0 to 62 in just over 7 seconds so actually feels very rapid & it’s got shed loads of kit & a pano roof lol.

It’s a £35k fully expensed car for under £100 per month in tax ... how much is your S3 ‘commute car’ costing you per month with all repayments / running costs / insurance / tax / depreciation/ tyres etc factored in ? :whistle2:

It’s not great tbh, only given it 2 full charges via the supplied 3pin cable as still waiting on charge point being installed and it shows a range of 25miles. But as you say there are a lot of factors which affect this. The hybrid part was just a fuel saving bonus for me, could of had the 2.0 petrol 190bhp version for similar payments. But when this became available with 225bhp it was no contest. My commute is 25-30miles round trip depending on route, with the shortest being A roads, so if I can do that for free then happy days. If a full electric with a 200+ range is affordable in 18 months then I would seriously consider it. Had looked at BMW i3s this time round but wasn’t prepared to commit to full electric and thought this was a good trial.

It’s a nice place to sit and that’s what I will see 90% of the time. Yes it’s not the best looking car on the road, but there are far worse out there.

We are all entitled to our own opinion rightly or wrongly, but *** life’s too short to care what others think imho.

The 225xe will serve its purpose of cheap motoring for me without moving to a lesser brand e.g. Nissan or Hyundai (wife drives a Tucson so know the spec is good but quality not great).

I could have stuck with Audi but for the same price as I’m paying I would of been driving an A3 Sportback BE, yes a very nice car. But it would of been the 1.0 115bhp version, sorry not for me.

No brand loyalty here folks

Happy Holidays!!

Yes mate but having tried one, boring as hell. The only financial benefit, and I get it, is if it’s a company car with BIK savings which regrettably I don’t get! Maybe that should read fortunately I don’t get!

I think it all depends on perception ... the Golf (& BMW) just does everything so well albeit yes it’s way down on power compared to an S or RS3 but it’s certainly changed my view on cars. For 95% of the time, a modestly powered car cruises along just as well.
It’s just the rapid acceleration & over taking with ease you miss. The big payback though is financial savings / money in the bank / extra holidays etc which I think is the over ruling theme in this thread. I think a lot of us have enjoyed our cars for years but are now thinking we’ve given Audi enough cash & it’s a nice feeling to reign things in.

Yeah all very good points & similar mind set as us.

The electric range is very limiting but in hybrid mode it works very well.

I still need convincing on 100% electric ... maybe another decade for the tech to develop for me to consider it.

Are you feeling ok? Fortunately I don’t have to worry about BIK but I do understand the benefits. 4 years ago my wife had a 150 cod and I had an S3. The difference in economy in real life was minimal but the the residual value of S3 was far better. Horses for courses.

Just a reality check mate ... plus car prices are getting rather silly now. Have you seen how much the new A1 is ... I dread to think what the new platform A3 / S3 when they launch.

Prices are shooting up because of the Brexit nonsense. £ barely worth 1.10 Euro now. It was 1.32 in June 2016 and 1.40 the year before.
Peoples vote to stop the nonsense, I want my Audis back!
