Dont update MMI connect app it will make it obsolete!!!

I've only had the briefest of plays - but the Wifi streaming bit of Internet Radio seemed to be linked to a 3rd party data contract? Most likely I've misunderstood - I registered my details to see the pricing and yes that are 'imaginative'.
The app runs on your phone and connects to the car via wifi (the bandwidth on Bluetooth is not sufficient) but it is still streaming through the data connection from the car, so you will still require a data plan. Either you need to pay for the data plan on the eSim, plug in a separate SIM, or connect your phone via rSAP (only works with Android).

Thanks DotNetDude - I'll have a play, the Galaxy supports rSAP (used it in the last car).

I love mine, it works just flawlessly.

everything works, even using the phone as an Electronic key using NFC.

@cosmicblue I'm intrigued.... how do you use your phone as a NFC key? I know you can lock and unlock the car with the APP but thats not using NFC its just using the internet and the data connection to the car. My understanding is that the keys and sensors are on a totally different frequency to NFC.

NFC Key opening (otherwise known as Audi Connect Key) is not available on any model in the A5 range. My understanding is it’s only currently on the A8.

I think @cosmicblue may be confusing this with the lock/unlock functionality of the App (which uses internet communication between the phone and car via a secure server, rather than NFC).

Only for the A8 I believe, unless the A6/7 has the sensors in the door handles. certainly the A4 hasn't, unless they've fitted them to the facelift ofcourse...

I remember seeing a YouTube video of this functionality on an A4. I recall it being in a few threads in this very forum, but don't think anyone ever got it working?

Nope, the MyAudi App went through a process of enabling the NFC function - I thought it was for just starting the car at the time. However, since the 6th November 2018 MyAudi app update (which I had to do manually last night) there is no reference to the capability now - so Cuke2u you have hit the reason in that link.

On Audis with Keyless start there is a procedure for starting the car when the key battery is flat - I haven't read the A4 user manual for that feature however on the prior 2016 RSQ3 one held the dead key against the steering column cowl - (the plastic was marked with a graphic as it didn't have a physical lock) and the car would start - might have been passive RFID as NFC needs power.

Well NFC has never been enabled on the A5 and the procedure for starting the car with a flat battery is nothing to do with NFC either. The technology simply doesnt exist currently in the A5 platform. It's temporary inclusion on the app must have been another glitch.

Google discontinuing Smart Unlock has nothing to do with other types of NFC functionality on Android or in Audi cars. They simply removed the function of the phone unlocking when in contact with another NFC enabled device.

Audi has never implemented NFC unlocking in the A5. The door handles nor the interior (for starting for a flat key) don't have the sensors for it and the technology is no different from the KESSY platform that they've been using for many many years.

Can anyone else see mileage oil level car locked etc besides Filipao ?

If you can't get the MyAudi App to work like above then see my post further up this thread on resetting Connect to Factory settings, waiting 12 hours and setting up the Key User from scratch - follow it to the letter as the App doesn't take prisoners....

The really annoying thing is that 'in car' everything appears to work - Google Map overlays, everything, getting this App to work requires the MyAudi code that resides in the App to be entered at a specific stage in the in-car set up process. Get it wrong and it's a reset to factory settings, wait 12 hours...repeat.

The dealer sales chap didn't know this, nor the service dept - just had to be figured out.

Has anyone explored the part of the app where you can use your phone to unlock and start the car, replacing the key.

Only it needs to be made clear that the vehicle settings, fuel and oil levels, locking and unlocking the doors, is only available to those cars that have SOS....

I tried this last night but it said my 'entry Level' Samsung wasn't comparable but the reasons it gave why that might be so didn't seem to apply I.e. NFC switched off or no pass code set for the phone's lock screen.

1) So what option provided the SOS function - or is it a model year (MY) dependent feature?

2) Is the inference that cars with SOS have bi-directional communication with Audi's systems, and without it - i.e. earlier generations of MMI could receive data but not send any back (like my departed Q3)?

What type of Samsung phone is it? NFC is the tech that's also used for mobile payment systems so Samsung, understandably, want to have a level of security activated before NFC is enabled.

Just a quick one, you CAN use the phones data connection even when connected to WiFi on many phones.....just need to enable it in settings. You don't need a separate data plan for the car, either with Cubic Telecom or via a third party Sim card .

Most phones by default assume a WiFi connection is the connection to use for internet access......but in android and I believe iPhones too, you can switch on a setting that allows the phone to use either or both....android calls it Smart WiFi switcher. It's in the WiFi Preferences menu .

This basically allows me to connect to the car with BT for the handsfree, WiFi to the car for Amazon Music and internet radio, whilst using the phones LTE connection to access Amazon and the Internet radio provider.

The myAudi app still crashes out occasionally for me though and needs to be manually restarted to get Amazon or Internet radio working again.....so not 100% yet .

1-I’m pretty sure from MY18 build have the SOS feature.

2-The ones, like mine, with the SOS feature can definitely send and receive data. I can check various things on the car remotely so that indicates it can send for sure.

I thought eu Regs being introduced was all vehicles have sos function

Thanks, that clarifies the frustration some folks have. I mistakenly thought all the generations of MMI after the 2016 Q3 had the bi-directional comms.

J330

I have another app which reads NFC data without issues.

TBH I can't see much benefit to it

Audi adopted SOS with the my2018 A4, my car doesn't have it.
Some very early A4's seem to have had it installed, perhaps by mistake, then they took it out again...

Different market though, just like in the UK we don't get the option of having the auxiliary heater

Correct, my reply was of course referring to the UK market. Other countries had SOS before we did for some reason...

This is genius. :icon thumright:

I had completely forgotten about this setting, its called "Download Booster" on Android. I've not been able to use RSAP on my newest phone because I bought a dual sim variant, and Samsung doesn't support RSAP on their dual sim devices. So I've been buying throw-away sims to get some data. However I just enabled this, connected up to the car wifi and Amazon music worked perfectly.

On iPhones - if your car doesn’t have a data plan, just connect your iPhone to the cars Wi-fi. The car will pull the internet connection from your phone.

Other option, if your car supports it turn your Wi-fi mode into hotspot and client on MMI. Tether to your phone (car to phone). That way it’ll serve anyone who connects to the cars Wi-fi. (Good for those of us who have big data plans)

Works both ways for me.

The WiFi music player via the Connect app is a big miss for me. We can still access tracks stored on the phone via AMI as well.

As im not tec savvy ,can you explain further?
Sorry, if you connect your phone via USB, the Audi Music Interface can browse/play files on your phone. It's a step backwards from the MMI Connect wireless access but at least it works.
