Bang & Olufsen retrofit question

Hi everyone.

I own a 2013 1.4TFSI A3 and I'd like to upgrade it's sound system because the stock one is too low in quality for me.

I currently don't have enough money to invest in a complete B&O speaker package so I'd like to start slowly investing in it.

Can I start by purchasing a center speaker or subwoofer & amp? Will it work with my current speakers or do I need the whole set?

Any advice would be awesome.

You can replace the center and tweeters. The sub won't work 100% with the build in amplifier.

Thank you for the quick reply. After looking at the definite retrofit thread I noticed he mentioned the MOST bus connector. Is this what you're referring to?

No the current power supply is your main unit. You can compare it with a "pioneer 4x50watt" radio. It can't deliver the needed power for B&O bas/mid/subwoofer speakers.

That's why B&O has an external amp under one of the seats. The speaker wiring goes from the amp to the speakers and some input cables ( canbus, most etc) from the main unit to the amp.

Oh, sorry, I misread your post. You're saying the sub won't work with the current amp. Yes, that makes sense. I figured I'd need to buy the amp if I'm going for the sub.

I’ve got it in my saloon, it’s decent but not all that and in my opinion it wouldn’t be worth the hassle. There was a thread on here somewhere about someone who upgraded to B&O and reading about it it did seem a real pain in the **** to do.

I think the B&O is great but you do need to get the settings right and it will depend on the source input.
As for retrofitting, it's a brave one to take on as afaik it will involve a complete rewire, which brings with it it's own issues and then there is the coding which may not be possible via vcds and require a specialist with dealer level equipment.

No not done yet. Maybe in the future, but i need new door panels for the retrofit. Thats holding me back.
