Long delays for new orders due to WLTP emissions testing

Sounds about right.

I was thinking of paying the extra for S-tronic, to get it 4 weeks sooner, but not worth it. Plus would have taken me into 40k road tax bracket :weary:

I’ve just asked my dealer about this and he said they haven’t been told anything. He did however say I seem to be giving him more updates (due to this forum info). Plus you’ve had confirmation from Audi CS.

I can manage without a car until 7th Jan 2019. So I really need to be getting a BW45-48. After that I’ll have to be looking for an instance purchase.

Saying all that the price protection would make mine too good a deal to cancel. So I think I’ll you have to wait it out.

It seems like no facelifts will be built until at least BW35. Not looking good for Audi
Apparently Audi employees received information on their intranet yesterday. I’ve translated this for a German website.

The changeover to the new WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) cycle is currently causing problems for almost the entire German car industry. The mandatory test procedure from 1 September should more realistically determine the consumption and emission values of new vehicles. However, the certification of cars according to WLTP is extremely complex: both the manufacturers and the authorities are currently hardly behind. Corresponding test bench capacities are currently in short supply.

After Volkswagen had announced a few weeks ago that the bands are down for days due to the WLTP problems after the plant holidays, the sister company Audi also announced yesterday first measures: So are the four-week plant holidays at the Ingolstadt site (30 July to 24. August) on the B-lines - where the A4 and the A5 are produced - extended by another two weeks. The employees were informed in a message on the Audi intranet.

It also states that from 6 to 31 August, one shift on the A-Line (A3 and Q2) will be canceled. According to information from our newspaper alternately late and night shift are to be deleted. In addition, there will be "sporadic" production-free days on the B lines in September, with individual shifts eliminated. Also in the areas upstream of the production - such as press shop, paint shop, body shop and module production - it could come to "deviant ways of driving". In total, the measures affected around 18,000 employees at the Ingolstadt plant.

The additional days off should be balanced in relation to employees' working time accounts and company time credits. That would have agreed company and works council. "The consequences of the WLTP conversion must not be carried out alone on the backs of the workforce," said the deputy chairman of the works council of the Ingolstadt plant, Rita Beck, in the statement. They have now agreed with the company on a solution "in the interests of the employees".

More detailed information should probably get the Audians then tomorrow at the works meeting.

Comment by Sebastian Oppenheimer

Expensive standstill
There were already better times for Audi: The diesel scandal has clearly scratched the image of the brand with the four rings. When then three weeks ago in the wake of the exhaust gas affair company boss Rupert Stadler was taken into custody due to blackout risk, reached the Ingolstadt car maker in public perception a new low point. But: The negative news do not want to break off. Yesterday, Audi announced the consequences of switching to the WLTP exhaust test cycle for the production team in Ingolstadt: Among other things, the factory holidays on the B-lines will be extended by two weeks, on the A-line a shift will be canceled for weeks.
This is of course annoying, especially for all Audians who have already taken their vacation for this year - they then make with the forced break then strong minus hours.

Particularly dreaded are such stoppages in the production of the employees of the night shift. They earn significantly more than the colleagues of the day shift - and not infrequently have to pay accordingly lush loans for a house. According to rumors, hard work was fought between the works council and the company over the night shifts. In theend, there was apparently a compromise: late and night shift on the A-line account for the change. Although this is good for the night shifters - the company is likely to end up expensive in the end. Because: half of the time in which the tapes are stopped, paid Audi, so to speak. In other words: If you have a 35-hour week, you will be credited 3.5 hours for each day you miss your outage.

The bad news: The WLTP problem should occupy the carmaker even longer. Currently, there is a search for large parkingareas for vehicles manufactured according to WLTP specifications, but not yet finally certified. And that many Audis justcan not order and probably the delivery times will grow significantly, should also leave financial mark.

Thanks for that, just so as everyone knows BW35 is week commencing the 27th August...

Earliest build week for a facelift is BW39 and that's only for the 3.0tdi Quattro.
Dealers sent me a spreadsheet yesterday with them all on.

Out of interest regards all these WLTP issues - when I picked my car up last thursday, I was told that no orders can be placed at all for RS4 models and that they “might” reopen for orders in early 2019.

Same story as S4 too. Will be available next year see pages 15/16 of attached.

Has anyone heard any new news or updates?
Tracker for me still says a 1.4 car and dealer knows nothing new. Last I heard was to expect a mid Dec delivery.

Factory is winding down for there hols, not sure how much will be coming out of it:
"So are the four-week plant holidays at the Ingolstadt site (30 July to 24. August) on the B-lines - where the A4 and the A5 are produced - extended by another two weeks."

Actually, not all manufacturers are faring the same. In the list in the link below from Germany, it outlines which car models from the manufacturers have complied with the new testing regime. You'll see the VAG are woefully behind the other big manufacturers. And it was someone on a Porsche forum who posted this link. Volvo basically finished this in March, and even Jag will have it all done by September.

Shambles, an absolute shsmbles.

Got an appointment with a Mercedes dealer on Saturday, to test drive/get figures on a new GLC. They can get one this month for me - hope I can afford it!

Same here. The spreadsheet says potentially BW41 for my car (Oct 8th) so taking 6-8 weeks on to that will hopefully get the car to mr for Xmas.

A forum member DM'd me to say his dealer told him Audi to start production in week 50 (mid December). So build weeks could start next year.
I'm going to a Mercedes dealer today, which is right next door to the Audi dealer I ordered from. So I'll be popping in to (hopefully) cancel my order, or to get an update on my car, if the GLC turns out too expensive.

I'm keeping an eye out for lease deals on other cars. If something comes up... I'll be cancelling the Audi order.

Seen a few deals on L200 barbarians but not sure what they would be like as an everyday "car".

Think a few peoplenare doing that. Ive been offered a vw arteon 2.0 petrol dsg r line for 1900 down and 223 a month pretty much same price as the a4 blk ed 1.4 (2.0). 12 week delivery but I dont think that car has been tested yet so dont quite believe the delivery date

I’m in the same boat A4 Black Edition 1.4T on order with a few extras via a great lease deal I saw in May. Now sat here having to consider potentially another car and searching for lease deals again.

Problem I can’t find a car I like at the price that deal was. I could end up spending £50 more a month to change to something else, it’s doable money wise but that’s not the point.

This situation really is a pain in the backside and not good for the car industry as a whole.

I ended up buying a cheap runaround due to the delays. Couldnt continue borrowing mates cars and hiring cars forever.

Glad i did it now as the delays are just getting longer and longer.

Was a good deal on an A250 AMG Line i nearly went for the other day... looked good inside.

I know what you mean mate, causing so many issues for people isn’t it.

I also saw that deal and considered it, however I currently have a C220d and went for the A4 due to it being of a similar size and I loved the inside and the virtual cockpit too. I ended-up after much deliberation deciding that although like you I think the A Class looks fantastic I just didn’t want to go to a smaller car.

I then considered the Arteon as that deal came up and to be honest the car looked great and the cost for what you got was pretty good (similar to the A4 deal) but there was just something about the car I couldn’t buy into that made me want to press the buy button.

I’m currently sat considering a 420d M Sport Gran Coupe because there are some deals kicking about on them, but as mentioned above it will cost me £50/£60 more a month than the A4 deal and also see me going from a 3+23 deal to a 3+35 deal if I do end up going down that route.

To summarise... I have no idea what to do... haha!

I ordered a 2.0 d 190 dsg arteon in January with a delivery date of apr which never turned up due to the WLTP issues..i know you were looking at the petrol but won't it have the same issues as the audi as that's what I am waiting for now. Really close to cancelling order and getting a stock vehicle from somewhere now..

Seems we all check a certain leasing thread quite often haha. For me the 3 or 4 series isnt an option as its quite plain inside and is bery soon to be replaced. The A class is nice but 2 grand for the fancy dash is madness and without it its quite meh. Arteon i do really like but as said its BS on the 12-14 week delivery. Might be best to wait. What a sh*t show.

I had a look yesterday at cars from a certain Bavarian Motor company which I can get on lease for £5 a month more than the Audi. 320d x-drive m sport step auto. Just wish it had some sort of virtual cockpit system. That’s a lot cheaper than it was (it was £60 a month more when i was looking around). Maybe they’re cashing in on the WLTP fiasco. These are in stock cars though so might be trying to shift stock before September.

They'll be doing good deals because its due to be replaced, as soon as it is the resale value of the old one will drop...

Test drove a Mercedes GLC yesterday. I thought the engine was noisy, the dash felt old fashioned and the COMAND system was not as good as the Audi MMI.
Was nice to drive though and I liked the higher driving position
I didn't like the extra £100 a month they wanted though and the 1k negative equity they quoted me for my A6.
I popped into the Audi dealer next door, for an update on my order. As expected, there was no update. I've finally decided to give up on finding an alternative and looking forward to my Avant - whenever that's going to be!
Sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side!

Where are you seeing these deals?

Tried to DM you but im guessing you have to be a member to use the inbox?

Just had the following message from my leasing company:
"I have today checked on the progress for your order and it is currently showing without a build week.

Current estimations give a lead time of approx. late September / October

There are a couple of reasons for this, the main one being the introduction of The Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure, also known as WLTP.

Added to this we have the model year 19 changes which are effective from build week 31 (week commencing 30th July). All MY19 vehicles will be WLTP compliant.

The prices quoted will remain the same, with Audi agency price protection is in place until delivery of the vehicle."

Back to square one then..

Basically... if you need a car soon, dont buy an Audi. That is what they are saying.

Yeah, it is a real joke.

Think @DaveW mentioned that I DM'd him. They said something like BW50 to me and then they expect it could be even longer than the typical month to get the car to the dealer.

I ordered a 218ps A4 Avant, s-tronic but now that they don't make that anymore Audi UK have said they would cover the cost of getting the larger 282ps tiptronic. So there is so good news around that but this wait it killing me...

Just had another update from lease company who said that if the vehicle hasn't been given a build date, then it will be a MY2019 model rather than MY2018 at the same price..makes it more bearable then..

Another update:

"We are being told the most likely date for delivery is the middle of January but again that’s not guaranteed."

sigh...

That must be some saving, plus it's been upgraded to 286 ps on the facelift, those 4ps extra will make all the difference!

Im just going to wait for ours. Unless I pick up a stock car (on a worse deal) there isnt really another option. Drove an Arteon over the weekend and really like it but I call BS on a 14 week delivery as it isnt WLTP compliant yet. So may as well wait. If it arrives later than 21st Dec my wife will be driving the S5 (bye bye alloys) and ill be in the train so I am seriously hoping it arrives by then

Fair enough, I did ask if there was anything else and he said with it being face-lifted there was zero chance. That is today though however :)
