Symphony I to RNSE help

Currently in the process of replacing a Symphony I head unit with an RNSE one.

I have this metal ‘tab’ on the back off the Symphony unit (circled in red) with a cable attached to it

There is nothing like it on the RNSE unit so just getting some advice about what to do with the cable? It’s obviously an earth so can I just take a screw out of the RNSE casing, transfer the tab over and just re-plug it in?

Anyone? As long as the radio has an earth in the connector surely I can just leave this disconnected?

EDIT: After much googling think I've worked out that it's the Alarm Ground and needs to be transferred into the adaptor in the corresponding terminal for the RNSE

I didn’t connect it to anything when I changed mine to rns-e a few years back, is it supposed to trigger the alarm when disconnected?

Thanks @tcg , that's a good bit of reading matter for anyone contemplating doing this. I'm getting there slowly.....all wiring/aerial adaptors are on order (mine doesn't have CAN H & L so opted for the Kufatec one that includes the cables to go to the back of the clocks, strangely though it DID have a GALA cable already going to the Symphony unit). Cage has been 'modified' (what a ball ache!!) to raise the RNSE unit to fill the gap that's normally left.

Just waiting for the cables to arrive and then I'll get the console out, swap the cages and re-fit everything (keeping my fingers crossed!!).

How did you raise the cage to eliminate the gap? I’d like to change mine in the future to a mk2 unit and I have another b7 rnse faceplate there for it, my mk1 unit has the gap above it

@syncro There's no easy way of doing it (well not in my head there wasn't anyway!!), the climate controls sit in the same cage so you can't simply make it higher. I had to cut the cage in half (bought a second hand one in case I cocked it up) and used a couple of flat brackets to re-connect the top and bottom half of the cage allowing for the extra height needed. You'll then need to elongate the mounting holes in the cage to allow you to use the existing plastic fixing tabs in the console.

The only saving grace is this means that you can just take the chrome trim off the bottom of the RNSE unit and cut off the 'ledge' that it leaves and not have to touch the exposed edge that you see. It leaves about a 1mm gap top and bottom of the RNSE unit so looks as good as it's ever going to.
