I much prefer an automatic watch over an iwatch for instance.

In the article, Audi seems to be thinking this is the only way and all other competitors will follow.... maybe they should be humble and think mmm why is that ? maybe there is not such a need... marketing at its best...

Same goes for matrix LEDs, I was trying to compare what more they give you in comparison to standard LEDs. Technically, that's not so obvious... Now cosmetically, I can hear that...

I'm yet to experience the virtual cockpit but like it or not it'll be commonplace in the premium vehicle segment. It offers complete personalisation for the user which is touted as a big selling point from the OEMs and offers them worldwide hardware commonality with changes only required in software - prob even a unified s/w platform with a country specific flag.

I understand, but most this personalisation could/should be done when not driving, hence it could be done via a unified menu on the MMI.. without all this blink distraction.

Head-up displays are a totally different benefit for the user and are a real plus in terme of user experience & safety... They should make it common/available in the whole range first before all the christmas wreaths...

Re HUD I'd much prefer to see what gear I'm in at eye level rather than having to look near the speedo!

TX.

Well, obviously HUD will not give you the same information as virtual cockpit but I was just opening discussion and saying my preference here. I think the priority should be given to these HUD...

BMW have it as do Chevrolet in the vettes pretty cool addition of you ask me to the stock dials but not sure if it's likely to be combined with the VC - information overload !!

H.U.D is great for speedometer/in gear/rev/outside temp....but...what i dont get is having 2 large screens on yer dashboard, like what you can get on the NEW A4.....

......gearstick looks like it should be in a bleedin bus!! Overall, not a fan................think it's a backward step. I reckon the current layout is probably the apex of interior design.............. later additions likely falling down like an avalanche!!

As I have said before, I believe the VC works in the TT simply because it is the only display on the dashboard.

The new A4 does not look good inside due to screen overload, as has been said!

Hope the FL A3 has something like the A4, as the current A3 retracting screen is ace IMO.

Yes agree completely that's total pixel overkill.

Think the virtual cockpit is an option in the new A4 which is why you could end up with the twin screens.

Each to their own, but the virtual cockpit is a higher priority that matrix lights for me. If its not too big a premium over the tech pack, I'm in. Im happy with the s-line xenons.

Changes i expect:

New front and rear lights
Virtual cockpit
Carplay and android auto
New wheel options
New engine options
New bumpers

And HOPEFULLY a way of seeing the ****** clock when the screen is down while cruise is on!!!!

Strange l would rather see more of the road on a dark wet night than be blinded by the virtual dashboard, had all digital dashboard before novelty wears thin quickly, although it was not as advanced as Audi's, may l add
Virtual binnacle easily a £1000 option

Something I would have ticked if available is:
Night vision assistant with pedestrian detection
Head Up display

Both paired are such a great improvement in terms of user experience & safety.
And with those two, you don't need virtual cocpkit. I much prefer do view the car and make settings when parked & via the MMI.

For night vision assistance your talking at least £1500 and the same for HUD......comparing them to what they cost on a RS6, so not really viable on a small/medium hatch/saloon?

Night Vision Assistance.......................wtf is that?? Some sort of covert black ops mission where you have to park without being detected? lol

The video is 4 years old, not sure exactly when it was first introduced.

Price... they can do pretty much whatever they like, R&D has already been paid so it's a choice of profit obviously.
I was only talking benefits from a customer point of view & my personal preferences.

Not the answer I was expecting mate but interesting for sure!!

Thought you might have had yer beady eyes on the S5 after those pics you threw on the other day, and also had you down for an RS3 after yer test drive. Not cheap though, I get that..............no chance of a sensational deal from your son come change over time? ;)

I think the S5 or even a well equipped A5 would be the next best upgrade to go to from the 8V line. Especially once the B9s become available. Wouldn't want a B8 A5 right now though.

Imagine a B9 A5 Sportback.... Etron-Hybrid.....

How are xenons (plus fogs) not completely adequate for this?? I find the a3 xenons to be adequate dipped, for that matter.

The a4 VC package also includes a HUD.

the other half has a new Mondeo with adaptive LED headlights. They really do make a difference with night time driving.

Once you have witnessed the Matrix headlights you will realise how poor xenons and standard leds really are,l live in an area where there are alot of unlit dual carriageway's/B roads, so l need good quality headlights,on wet nights all xenons are pretty useless, the Matrix beams are active ones throwing full Beam light onto all unoccupied parts of the road making night time driving safer, less tiring, less stressful

Ha ha ..... it's not that long ago most of us just had halogen lights.

Now we're saying xenon & regular LED lights are not good enough :)
