My S3 has an electro-mechanical handbrake, i.e. no conventional handbrake lever.

Having just watched a TV drama where the passenger, in a car whose driver had just passed out, grabbed the handbrake to bring the vehicle to some sort of a halt, my wife looked across to me and said: 'How would that work in your car?'

Well people ... what's the answer?

they'd pull the handbrake switch and the car would stop?

And if you have Advanced Key, the passenger can also switch off the car, the button is on their side, just press and hold

if the car is moving and you apply the EPB the car will automatically apply the brakes on the 4 wheels.
Still you have to keep pulling the switch, as a simple fast pull wont do pretty much nothing except a noise on the DIS.

Of course the passenger has to know what all the buttons do in the first place. I would wager most would look down and think where is the ****** handbrake...

Does that really work? I'd imagine the car locking up at speed would be a health and safety issue.

Where does health come into it?
And how's it any different than being able to turn a key to do the same thing?
If it's really a safety issue then perhaps those people shouldn't be in the car at all.

It's amazing how many people pass out or die at the wheel. The bin lorry in Glasgow for example. I'm certain they all leave home feeling fine.

I was curious and tried this a while ago. The wheels don't lock up like a normal handbrake more like a very violent halt

Everyone should try this at least once
From around 30mph

So that they know what happens and what to expect if they ever have to use it for real.

I tried it at 10 Km/h and still was a hell of a feeling
Don't really wanna know unless its necessary at higher speeds.
