So i tried LC for the first time today. Warm engine, straight, flat (quiet, rural!) road, using my Beltronics FX2 performance timer. Half a tank of fuel on board.

Two attempts: 4.30 using auto shifting, 4.17 using the paddles. Seriously quick!

LC test

Wow awesome times !! What body style do you have ?

I'm guessing it's red if it's gone that quick :)

Why is it audi state 4.7 for hatchback, and 4.9 for saloons when everyone doing their tests it's around 4.3-4.5 seconds?

Did you do a run without LC?
Be interesting to see how much the difference is.

If anything some people are buying cars based on performance along with everything else, I would of thought Audi would of advertised it based on actual readings rather than conservative figure.
They must be unpocketing themselves out of millions doing it that way.

So do we now have bragging rights that our car is a 4.1s 0-60mph?? :D

Not sure how accurate that reading is as I've read a few posts on here with some people running DTUK kits and only getting around 4.3s (shouldn't say 'only' as 4.3 is still seriously quick in my eyes)

I have the DTUK box and was recording a 4.1-4.2 with VCDS however it was slippery and again I'm not sure exactly how accurate VCDS is at recording acceleration times.

You would think it would be pretty accurate, but who knows

I remember Leo-83 was getting 3.77 with DTUK box.

Just has to be in sport to launch, once you are on the move though you can leave it to do its own thing or use the paddles/+- stick.

Actually my friends S4 will launch in manual as well, I've been meaning to try it.

With a Racelogic Vbox (THE box)

0-62 = 4.6s with LC
0-62 = 5.2s without LC

So that's 4.3 seconds to 62 mph.

That Polish video is the best I have seen representing the sprint to 62 mph with / without LC.

Why the second one is starting from rev 0 and not 4000 ??

V box is and should be the only box used, the most accurate and well favoured be serious modders chasing times. I think that initial recording should be taken with a pinch of salt. Audi wouldn't be cautious by a whole second.

I think they should of done a 3rd test run with ESC on, that would simulate more everyday driving.

How do you start at 4000rpm without building up boost?
The only way is by holding down the brake pedal and reving, by doing that you're effectively doing an LC

I always get confused with the whole manual vs stronic 0-60 without launch control, when launching a manual you build up the revs..so what's the difference? What's the 0-60 time for a manual car if you start from 0 revs? That's the only way to compare.

If you are trying to cross a desperately busy junction

Or pull out into a very fast flowing roundabout

The manual you can build boost and really give it some to get across quickly

In a S tronic you cannot build boost (unless in LC) so have no choice but to start from zero revs.

Believe me, in this case, the 0-30 time is more relevant, as you pull out across the junction, lock eyes with the fast approaching car, your car seemingly taking an age to accelerate then taking off like a stabbed rat when the turbo finally wakes up.

With LC 0-50kmh 1.7s
Without LC 0-50kmh 2.3s

Half a second in a 30mph sprint feels like an eternity!

And compare non S-Tronic launch of course, don't forget manual doesn't have a built in LC mode
Yep, that would be good to see a comparison. No Rev build up just start the stop watch and off you go.
Think the auto would be quicker due to the instant gear change from 1st to 2nd..but maybe not......

Can you not right foot on the brake Rev it a little then release the brake in non LC mode in an auto? Dunno that's why I'm asking

Might be a silly question, but on my escos it doesn't make any boost until the engine is under load, so if you sit at 4000 rpm with the clutch depressed you don't get boost pressure.

Yeh that's why a lot of cossie owners had anti lag mapped in and you see them a week later getting towed by the aa / rac / green flag whoever the owners clubs are running a deal with nowadays ;-)

Without sounding rude as I do LOVE the escort cossies mate it's " old technology " now ......

Sean

Not tried it either, tried it first time on my 8P and got 3 points LOL (no joke :/).

The car is brutally fast for the roads anyway, unless I was on a private track with plenty of space to play I can't see myself using it.

Anti lag isn't launch control. So does the manual s3 make boost if you Rev the engine? May be old tech but there both still a turbo charged 2.0
