focus st vs s3 anyone else raced one?!!

As soon as I saw this thread back up I knew it'd be you Gops lol!

One decimated me the other day, but I am riding standard in a 1.8T..

This guy was awful he over took me coming out of a 30 into a national.speed limit and by the first bend I was back on him, he couldnt drive at all.

Was a beautiful sound going past me though.

Holy thread revival Batman!!

Hehe :rockwoot:

Is a funny thread if you read through it for an hour (if your sad like me).
Lol rav I had to do it, I need power like welly now so I can crush them all!

I was sat here reading this post and thought you might be interested.

The reason for decimation was most likely this:-

This is a new standard Focus ST which has been remapped. Volvo 2.5 litre engines coupled with turbo = a bucket load of torque and enough bhp to wipe the floor with most S3 8Ls.

Even with the figures that i'm pushing out, i'd be thinking twice...a mapped ST is a worthy adversary despite it giant frame.

I was aware that they were 2.5 turbo, and was obviously expecting him to go round me..

But I havent seen a graph on a remapped one before so cheers.

Its funny that you posted this up and i read it just as I was watching clarkson in the ST on top gear.

Standard v standard there's nothing in it, my gf had hers for 2 years now and whilst its a suprisingly good car to drive, ****e loads of torque from low down, she can't pull away. 2 of my mates have them too, one fella notorious for driving like a loon, and i was pleased to see him trailing behind. Now.he has.it mapped however and i know to stay away! Aroumd 300 pounds of torque from like 2.5k.
Ive been wanting to mod my gfs but I get carried away with the s3. She has a huge jetex filter though with larger intake pipes, inspired by this place :)

They put the power down well. Good friend of mine runs a company specialising in them and the RS. A simple remap transforms them and turns a capable car into a quick one.

as soon as I've got my car back, I'm going to drive around town until I find a focus RS to race :p then I'm going to take great pleasure in destroying it!

In the dry my friends ST eats me, my other friends Astra VXR destroys both of us, my brothers VXR vectra humps the lot of us,

Funny how when it rains nobody wants to play with me and my S3 lol
the vectra and Astra are hideous to drive in the wet, the focus copes but none are a patch on the S3,

This was a fun day

Porsche drivers are always fun.

My brothers had a run in with a few in his S4, and its almost always the same story. Your driving along minding your own business and next you know you've got Mr Porsche glued to your bootlid demanding you get out his way.

Always good fun at that point to move over, let them past and then pull back out and adhere yourself to their bootlid. When they suddenly discover that pressing their go faster pedal doesnt work properly and they cant pull away from you they usually get nicely upset.

Even more fun when you can draw up along side them at a junction or similar and look over with a huge grin on your face, as they've almost always got a scowl :D

One run in that sticks in my mind was many years ago when i had my nova. On the way back from a show in a convoy of novas in various states of tune, i remember seeing a fast moving red object approaching in the outside lane. As it draws closer i realise its a Ferrari 355, and then promptly burst into laughter as it passes us, flat out doing well over 120mph, with a blue nova glued to his rear bumper. Mr Ferrari was presumably rather ****** off that he couldnt shake off said small crappy hatchback and the bloke driving the nova was ******* himself!

Blue Nova didn't happen to be a 2.0 turbo Calibra lump with a central oval exhaust did it?

I dont think it's getting hated mate? I've seen A LOT worse!

If I ever get seriously beasted by anything i like to speak to the owner and find out what they've done to the car. I know I dont drive the fastest car around and i'm interested to see what people have done to their cars.

Ha...sorry all and to you Neil, I was reading earlier posts and somehow thought that it had descended into something but it must have been old posts.

I've deleted the post. No offence intended as I couldnt agree with you more and am enjoying the Nova tales now!

Nah, from memory it was a XE on carbs or throttles, cams etc. Was a while ago now (like 8 years or summat), but i think it was owned by a guy called ChrisT.

Thought i'd ask as one of my mates was into Nova's 10 years ago and we did a few trips to the Ring. There was a blue turbo'd one running over 300bhp owned by some guy who's surname was Beeston. Was a rapid car.

Years ago I was coming back from a mates garage after some tinkering with my RS (in my sig). As I came off teh roundabout past some traffic I was met with the familiar front of a Porsche 911 with his lights on. As I moved over he went to pass and feeling a bit cheeky I nailed the throttle. We ran parralell through 3rd, 4th and 5th where he made about a cars length on me. Still remember the huge grin plastered across his face as he wound the window down and exclaimed "What the f*** is in that thing?"

Car said Carrera 4S on the back and I was quite pleased that a shonky 20+year old Ford Escort could stand toe to toe with it.

Also had a nice one with an E36 M3 convertable. Bloke pulled up behind me and was pointing at the boot sticker "Restricted to 248bhp, Please pass" and laughing with his mail order girlfriend. Pulling off the lights he decides to try and gun up the inside and undertake. I wasn't so keen and gunned it too. He must have had a stiff neck as when he drew up alongside me at the lights he seemed totally unable to look across at me. lol

I also got my backside handed to me by an Astra Van, looked totally normal, even had a set of ladders on the roof. Never underestimate the other guy

A mate of mine had a similar run in with his XE Corsa and a Porsche Boxster. He'd drawn up at some lights on a dual carridgeway in dumbarton, slightly leaking exhaust burbling away noisily. While waiting for them to change the boxster drew along side with the roof down. The bloke in the porsche pointed at the corsa and made some comment to the blonde in the passenger seat and they both started laughing, and the guy revved the engine a bit. Al reciprocated with a blip of the throttle in the corsa, leading to more snickering, so he gave the guy a nod and points down the road. Lights change and both of them floor it, Al pulled a nice lead on the guy before stopping at the next set of lights. This time boxster drew alongside and both occupants had gained stiff necks and were staring streight forwards, no laughter this time either :p

Very true not underestimating the other guy, even when your in a porsche!

This has wondered off from a focus RS thread lol
I used to enjoy racing the old mk1 RS , a lad i know fitted aGT28 turbo to his... stripped it out and then for the first time beat me... he was over the moon, i remember still feeling happy on the way home that i had just a remap... he had spent £££££'s
My mk2 golf is fun as its a 1985 car. gets "in the way" of soo many want to be super cars,
A merc' CLK was flashing me out of the way so i let him pass then decided to become his new rear bumper sticker. all the way to the cheaky side of 140, he was not a happy man,
Had a run in with a 330 BMW for around 50 miles ! on the way to run to the sun a few years back. I beat the hell out of him... he followed me onto the camp site i was about to book onto and asked "what the f&ck is that?" to which i said " its a golf mate" he span around and shot off,
Fun times... shame most peole expect the S3 to be fast ( sometimes faster than it realy is )

I need some of these stories in my life. Only car I've really had a good go at was a white Astra VXR nurburgring edition. Weather it was standard or not I don't no, but it obliterated me!! Same day I got it too so maybe my driving skills were not quite up to scratch.

My mate has a type r ep3. But won't take his car for a spin with me. Wimp

Dude, your post appears to be 100% honest. This isn't in the nature of these kind of threads :p but well done all the same.

240bhp ashtray VXR is going to wipe the floor with a standard S3 once rolling every time.....

Still a crap chassis that can't cope with it's power though, and it's a vauxhal, so I wouldn't be too fussed :p

haha, yea, yours was honest Paul, but it wasn't a story about an S3 losing a race, so it is allowed on the forum.

I'm sure by morning the mods will have come along and removed all trace of an S3 losing a race against a vauxhal :p

xxx

Ha!... I was going to say. Ive left a few astray vxr's for dust and that explains it. I've heard that in the wet they handle like butter on a hot frying pan too. Shame...they often look the part.

Haha. You win some you loose some. I've had loads of 'races' but just with 19yr olds in VTRs and such. Which aren't really a race, more of a 'is this guy seriously going to try and race me?' joker!!

In relation to my car being standard, it isn't. When I got it, it had a map and panel filter. Not massively modded but still

I read the the Porsche eating parts with intrest!! I love my S3 and really enjoy driving it, is quick and loads of fun. But is not in the same league as my 997 turbo with acceleration that puts a huge grin on my face every time I floor it. When I am out in it there is nearly always someone who wants to have a go, there are very few that even get close!!!

Yea it's a tough one.

Rising above the gnats but choosing the right moment to give it the full beans is what I enjoy. There are so many sleepers out there and you just never know what's under the hood but likewise they don't know what your packing.

That's the beauty of being understated.

To be honest I don't see many Focus RSs about mk1 or 2.

I pulled alongside a bright green mk2 last year and it sounded epic. He'd had an aftermarket exhaust fitted and his mate was following in a 172 Clio and a passenger haning out the window filming the thing spitting flames.

Yeah I know what you mean about sleeper. Someone I work with has a metro with the 1.8vvc engine from a ZR in it. Rapid. Which is now being removed and put in his old mini.

Freakily enough, a kid around my end has the same conversion lol.

I love these stories, Always a good laugh when a pompus nob gets their *** handed to them by what they think is a crappy old hatch etc, Keep them coming!

yep had this to in the fezza rs a cupple of years ago, Porsche 911 Carrera 4S started to pull up along side me so I put my foot down for giggles, started to leave him when we were in the three figures, he backed of when he was about 4-5 car lengths behind lol was at the end of my clock so I thought I better slow up, I had my face glued to the window with the biggest grin ever and he had that stiff neck prob to when he came back past lol
thing is his car would do 170, so if he had carried on he would have cought up eventually.
another good two was e46 m3 which got dusted and a rx7, the yank in the rx thought the 4 foot flames on let off were mesmerising lol

as much as i hate fords
my other half has a st3 09 plate and as i am with any audi or vw
i had to mod the st
full exhaust cai inlet injectors fmic GT30 etc etc all the bits
1.2 bar 400hp 450 lbft
makes for 1 very fast ford but i dont race it
i had it up against my a4 stage 3 running 380hp and it kept up

It was my little toy car, I looked like donkykong driving it :) I could turn round and nearly touch the back window lol

A stage 2 S3 is going to be a good match for a Focus RS. After all none have ever made the 300bhp they were claimed to have. Majority make anywhere between 265-280. Anyone ever see the Autocar video of a Clio 200 racing an RS on the Millbrook Alpine circuit? Focus could only get away up hill and even then it wasnt romping it. Clio was all over the RS throughout the whole course. They arent these not to be f`d with beasts everyone thinks they are.

Yes I remember that video, very interesting. The clio's chassis is immense on the twisties.

Hoping to go car hunting in a few weeks :eyebrows:
