RS3 EEPROM Flash

Saw a couple of videos on youtube like this one

Needle sweep, boost gauge etc. on a normal 8p cluster. Am I right in saying somehow they've managed to flash the EEPROM with RS3 code?

It fecked up his steering coding if its who I believe, I wouldn't go there if I was you.
