Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

Might even buy the slayer back off Jamie if the price is right.

If you want it mate, let me know, I have just bought a 2nd pajero and lookign for a 3rd, so I currently have 5 cars including the wifeys mondeo. So I am looking to scale the collection down a bit, the merc in my baby, the pajeros are earning me money and the mondeo is the wifes daily hack, so IMO the only one that out of place here the A3, so if you want it back mate its a realistic option.

Saw that advert earlier on Facebook.. Looked very nice! Congrats!

I have been trying to buy yours for nearly two years Jo! I think I have asked you every day for about 6 months.

So this car and I have some serious history, originally purchased as a totally mint S3 by my friend James 5 years ago, crashed at the Ring, repaired and modified to a great standard by him and then swapped wth Dan from COV for a diesel 8P A3.

Dan ran it for a couple of years, and put stickers on it and kept it serviced and up to perfect mechanical condition, then swapped it with me for a diesel 8p.

Been up since 5 machine polishing it.

Gave it a wash.

Smashed it down the A30 today, it really is quite good. The modifications really work well, it's balanced which is nice and the damping his just the right side of firm. Ride height wise it is sweet, low enough to look good but no real scraping or scrubbing over dips.

Cut it back with a cutting pad and some black hole, worked really well.

Waxed it with Dark Angel, then sealed it off with race glaze.

I like it, it's all right. The low torque is weird, it doesn't feel very fast. You put your foot down and it all goes a bit wooshy then before you know it it's at 3 figures.

I did a 5K full on drag strip launch off the lights last night with an M3 in tow...and the woman as passenger.

I don't know what was scarier, how slow the M3 looked, how loud it was with its 3" monster exhaust, the massive meth flames or the punch in the face I got off the lady.

Plans are.

De chav it, put a more subtle exhaust on it, a couple of small paint repairs and refurbish the wheels.

It doesn't actually need anything, it's in great condition. Just needs some personal touches and a small amour of bodywork love, which is my area.

Oh. And slay some A3's.

The car looks really clean! Just out of interest what made you want to switch to the s3 from the 8p?

Dan posted it on Facebook on Wednesday night saying he was selling and wanted a diesel 8p.

Sent him a message saying I would do a swap, he said ok. Went and picked it up.

Convenience really.

My girlfriend is going to Australia for a few months, so I want a toy whilst she is away. On top of that I feel at home in an 8L, I jumped in this and it just felt right. I had no intention of getting an S3, it was just one of those deals that fell into place all too easily.

I thought I had made a big mistake last night, driving home with a feeling of dread about the big mistake I had just made.

But after my cleaning session this morning and monstering it down the A30 this morning it is a really fantastic car, much nicer than my old A3 to drive. Largely down to the fantastic spec and attention to detail James put into I when he built it.

And slay some A3's.

You say this Jarod but I've just been doing some working out....

Currently your 285bhp @ 1420kg's is giving you almost exactly 200 break per tonne

An A3 with 245bhp @ 1150kg's (standard weight) will have 213 break per tonne.

Knowing for a fact my A3 weighs 1060 once I've removed the rear seats etc and once I've got my full stage 2 (circa 245bhp) that'll give me 231 break per tonne! . . About 15% on the S3 and that's before you take into consideration the extra 15% power loss through the 4wd.

I always hate to say it and, right now, you're going to hate to hear it... But perhaps you were right right all along!

Anyway, just saying! . . Cars looking good  once I'm all mapped up you me and prawn should deffo all go have a little play! (prawns only allowed his low boost setting tho)

It was only a matter of time ;)

Which H&Rs are they? It sounds like they could the the RSS like I have? Are they pretty stiff?

Very very stiff.

There is next to no body roll, but the vertical damping is very smooth.

It is slow.

A3 is 1000000% a quicker can in a straight line.

S3 certainly handles better though, althought I would hazard a guess at that being due to the extensive handling mods this wagon has.

Love this car!

Lewis: your weights are a bit out chap I weighed your car at 1220kg with the spare wheel still in.

You loose roughly 120kg by stripping EVERYTHING and replacing the front seats with lightweight fg seats.

Still, it's hugely funny to see someone using Jardos own maths against him all these years later, I wonder how long it'll be until he starts going on about when the weather turns bad and how it rains so often in England

Not to mention all that lose and bumpy terrain prawn!!
I really like it. Honestly i think its a great example. Would love to know how it went compared to mine. Your spec is very close to one of my possible tuning routes. Even the r tech map!!

What size is the front R32 ARB?

It's all about handling at the end of the day, anyone can drive fast in a straight line :racer:

Come drive it then Daz, I'm not precious.

Prawn and I will have a meet up soon I am sure.

I enjoy wheel spin, so unless it snows any time soon I am not going to preach on about driving fast in the wet. It's retarded to drive fast in adverse conditions anyway, you might be alright but others around you aren't. And I don't fancy putting a clutch in this within a week. It's done 141K of abuse and a **** ton of drag days and it's still on the original...
