ASN's Pub

bonjour!
nice weather today so reseeded my lawn too and covered with top soil to keep the feathered friends off of it!
i made the mistake last year on feeding my brand new from seed lawn, and wiped half the ****** out!
last day off today for me before deadly night shift weekend! :sob:
so will probably take the little one to the beach!
fred, i am sure the bird will be ok mate! but can imagine the wee pussy cats doing there ends!,
its not in the loft is it? if so, you should be able to throw a towel over it!
a video of you doing this would be good!
anywho, how is everybody?
i have been drinking I.P.A. lately and i am converted!
only trouble is, it is like rocket fuel! proper man's beer!, it also gives you a delayed hangover and makes me fart like a trooper!

I bet it's a fair while :( in or first house we had a rat we caught in a cavity under the house. It lasted a few days struggling away before I backed down and finished it off myself. Be prepared for the long haul, don't they hibernate? It could be months ha ha!

It'll stink for a week or so at least too. But it'll fade.

Is it in the soffets or loft space Neil?

Loft mate. I took your advice and went up in the loft with a towel expecting to find a bird. I could hear it scratching away in one corner then it popped its little ratty head up and looked at me. I nearly fell out the loft hatch in a panic to get the steps up and the hatch shut as quickly as possible.

I called my mate and he's sorted me out with some pest control poison bait that he's used on them before. I've opened the hatch and popped a tray of it up there for it. Bon appetite my furry friend. Hopefully it'll die before bed time. Noisey little thing.

I am just a blood thirsty brute lol!
Plus the fact if you have had poison down and mr squirrel has dabbled in it, the cats may get a taste too!
Leave the cats, get a ferret in there!

10 mins ago it just dropped down the cavity wall an was running around under the bathroom floor! It's gone back up in the loft now so I dropped some poison under the floor too. Got an access panel under the bath.

****** hell mate!
That must be mental, dont think i could handle that going on tbh!
I trap the odd mouse in garage and makes my skin crawl, so one at large 'in my crib' would really wind me up!
The pellets should work, its hungry and homeless now bob the builders have scattered its cosy nest in the soffits, its now blocked in and starving, and like what Paul said mate, it will stink for a while so get up there in a few days to remove it!

OMFG! It's been running around in the bathroom! Just came up for a shower an there are prints all over the sink and toilet lid! It must have come down the cavity wall behind the plasterboard bathroom wall that cover the pipework but there's room under the toilet waste pipe. Good job the door was shut. Blocked all gaps with towels and flannels now.

Not heard it for about 30 mins now so it's either gone to bed or eaten poison.

Hope it's quiet from now on as the mrs is talking about going to her folks for the night ***. I refuse to be forced out of my house by a squirrel.

Lol, mice are a different kettle of fish mate! They breed like wild fire!
If you have 2 mice, in 6 weeks you have 20! That's a problem.
1 random fluffy rat is an inconvenience, but sorted in 1 hit!
I have a bigger problem anyways, SLUGS,
every night have loads in my garden, there unstoppable!
Tried traps, cant use pellets and find myself using a tub of saxa salt to kill them all in one night!, the next night comes around, and i have more!
I may have to call in the A team lol

Get some hedgehogs mate. They will eat them all and keep them down.

Westy, it's not but have had before in the past.
I never ran around stuffing cloths in to holes in my walls to keep them trap. Lol
You'll be fine.
Just let it out.

Morning guys happy friday... :beerchug:

This westy squirrel thing made me laugh, but its not nice, why dont you open the bathroom window and let it get out??

Ive had a squirrel in the house before, and it took a month to get it out, we were recommended them ultrasonic pest control things that you plug in, and it seemed to work eventually, they cannot relax with the high pitch sound they give out (we cannot hear it) but your cats might have matchsticks holding there eyes open...;)
the thing with squirrels is they eat wires so could potentially set your house on fire,
Anyway have a good weekend...;)

Fred, I feel your pain mate. As said above, our first house had a few rat issues in the loft and cellar areas. I don't think there's many people who wouldn't run a mile if a rat or squirrel was loose in their house. Having been there myself, it's awful.

Hopefully the poison will get the fecker. It'd be nice if it doesn't die in your house as it'll stink, but the smell won't last much more than a week I imagine...hopefully. :moa:

Keep us updated on squirrel-death watch.

All quiet at the moment guys. Heard it twice this morning but it's not moving as much as yesterday so hopefully it's had the bait. I'll check the bait in a bit and see if it's been touched.

Dave that video is mental! I doubt a squirrel can take on 3 cats though ;)

morning yo!
balls to the squirrel, HOW DO I FETTLE THESE SLUGS!!!, i am talking epidemic proportions here!
and i dont want them munching on my lovely new lawn seed! :sos:

anybody?
scott, i can't just randomly round up hedge hogs and dump them in the garden lol, the dog will go mental!
he is not a fan of hedgehogs, besides there riddled with ticks and flees

Morning all

WTF is going on in here, its gone from Home Improvements to The Natural World!!

Chez, just lay some salt down, the Slugs hate it, or just sprinkle it all over them and the area they are covering, that should do the trick.

Fred, as for the Squirrel, I would leave some doors and windows open and hope it fancies the great outdoors a bit more than your house, i bet its proper annoying!!

I hate rats and mice, send a chill down my spine...i dont mind them if they are kept as pets and confined, but out and about....euurrgghh!!!

Scott, I presume you are getting drunk on early morning pre wedding drinks with your sis....have a great day mate :)

Afternoon all and  Haha quality!

May as well call this mumsnet pub talk! lol

So has anyone got anything planned for the weekend at all? - car wise that is :p

Think I'll be dropping my suspension a little bit as I have the car booked in for a few things on Tuesday :eyebrows: so will pray my tie arms don't give way before the Tuesday as they are supposedly on the lowest ride height already with the OEM ones

Then on the Sunday I'll be off to MBW, riding pax in a friends very well kept 996 turbo which he has had since new and recently had an upgrade so she's running 674bhp....yep that wasn't a typo....we aren't the only guys who go hybrid on the turbos!

Actually can't wait to get a ride in this motor :yum: think I may take a change of underwear as we are hooking up with another mate in a GTR along route so things could get interesting :racer:

Pest control man came round and told me off for using rat poison! Said it probably won't kill it either. He's put 4 trays of proper grey squirrel bait up there now. It had nibbled at the rat poison and I've heard it a few more times but its not as active as yesterday. The fella said poison can still take 7-10 days to kill it! What's the point in that!? If it's still being a pain he'll come back with his air rifle lol.

Wow, I didn't know that. I just assumed that they were just rats with bushy tails. I think the rat poison is wharferin which thins their blood and causes internal bleeding...nice.

Hope you get it sorted soon fred

How was everyone's weekend then?

Kwistof you jammy git, anything planned??

Weekend was good for me, quite a bit of drinking and quite surprisingly not too bad recovery time either....I must be getting young in my old age :)

Good to hear dude, I have too much planned this week fella.

My brake pad sensor came on at the weekend - I initially thought it was just the sensor playing up with the car being so old....and the outside pad had some meat left. But after taking the wheel off it seemed as though the wire in the pad had been broken - so new pads needed which I had not planned for this month :(

The day of tomorrow will be sent in the garage....new MPSS getting fitted, adjustable tie arms, track rod ends and then my mate and I will fit some EBC red stuff pads to replace the ones currently on them.

This is all in preparation for this Friday as I am off to Wales for a tour with car friends :racing:

The Thursday will be left for final prep of my car and getting my clothes and Tom Tom sorted with all the routes :D

I am ashamed to say I am such a lightweight at present- I haven't had a good session for ages with the booze as I'm constantly getting up at 5am for car events! Really need to get myself sorted before I go to Le Mans as we are meeting up with a bunch of Northern petrol heads who drink like fishes! lol.

Sounds like a busy few days then hey Enjoy :)

Get some pics too!!

Well lads. 1 squirrel turned out to be 2 squirrels in the loft. The 2 squirrels in the loft then drafted in help from outside. No word of a lie a 3rd squirrel was sitting in our guttering trying to chew the trapped ones free. Saturday was manic. Had 3 cats running about chasing the outside squirrel while I was up a ladder trying to free the 2 in the loft.

I removed 2 of the air vents in the soffits and left the ladder as close as possible to the hole. The squirrels would hang out the hole by their back legs in an attempt to grab the top rung of the ladder with their front legs but they didn't seem to like the steep angle and went back in. My next attempt was to create a zip line from one of the vents to my garden wall. This offered an easier angle and something for them to hold onto. I had something like the following in mind:

Surprisingly, they weren't interested in that option either. I was expecting people round at 4pm for a BBQ so I was running out of time. I put in a call for one of my mates to bring the above air pistol with them and I then set about plan C! This was to pop the vent out that was closest to my next door neighbours house where they have a tall conifer. I ran a long wooden curtain pole from just under the vent to the top of this tree and it was a perfect straight walkway for them. If they didn't take this opportunity then they would never leave and I'd have to go all guns blazing in the loft.

My guests arrived and I packed away the ladder. I think the noise of everyone then scared the squirrels off so we never actually saw them leave. We were up till 4am drinking and I felt a bit rough yesterday. My mrs came to wake me up at 09:30ish as she'd gone to feed the cats and one of them had rounded up a squirrel that was hiding behind our wheelie bins. I grabbed the pistol and went to investigate. The squirrel was not in a good way but showed no signs of cat injuries so I suspect this is one of the poisoned ones from my loft. It wasn't moving much and was whimpering. I thought i'd do it a favour and put it out it's misery but it's head wasn't visible so I popped it in the ribs from point blank. It then took another shot to the side before running off and hiding in a bush.

Anyway we haven't heard any noise from them in over 24 hours now so I think they must have come out now. Fingers crossed.
